"I couldn't keep him out!"

A nurse was out of breath trying to warn Lee just as the door busted open. Lee jumped and saw Jerome. She was confused by the cat. She noticed TaTyana and Bailey. Jerome hurried over to Lee.

"Please! This is Jasper... Mercedes's cat! He got out and got stuck in a chain-link fence... Lee I know you don't really do animals, but please try to save him! If he dies Mercedes will be so upset.... I... I didn't mean for him to get out... please help!"

Lee was taken back by the desperation and sadness in Jerome's voice. She sighed.

"You're right I don't do animals, but put him on the table. Quick."

Mercedes tried her best to avoid eye contact with Jeremiah. She decided not to tell him about her conversation with Ecco. She didn't want Jeremiah to hurt her. Jeremiah was busy writing more notes for his plan. He looked up and saw Mercedes sitting in a chair across the room silently staring off into space. She was looking away from him. He sighed.

"Mercedes you can look at me..."

Mercedes finally lifted her gaze. She stared at Jeremiah and shook her head.

"What am I going to do...?"

Jeremiah's expression softened. He walked over to Mercedes and knelt in front of her.

"Jeremiah please..."

He gave her a genuine, soft smile.

"You aretruly beautiful."

Mercedes gently cupped Jeremiah's cheek. She slightly smiled and leaned forward until her face was inches away from his.

"I hate you."

Jeremiah smiled.

"Just a few more inches beautiful."

Mercedes leaned forward until their lips just barely brushed then she pulled away. Jeremiah playfully sighed.

"Oh, not fair."

Mercedes laughed.

"You seem to forget that I am your brother's girlfriend."

Jeremiah groaned.

"Yes you are, but it would take no effort to just... stay here with me."

Jeremiah smiled. Mercedes laughed and shook her head.

"Now you know I can't."

Mercedes stood up from the chair and walked to the other side of the room. Jeremiah frowned. He stood and turned to see Mercedes examining his notes. She looked up and smiled. Jeremiah's stomach fluttered.

"I wasn't really reading your notes. I was just admiring your immaculate and pretty hand writing. Jerome has chicken scratch."

Jerome gently laid Jasper on his cat bed. He sighed. Lee was able to remove the shard of fence and stich him up. Jasper was still asleep from his operation. She instructed Jerome to give him half of a pain pill every two hours as needed. He sighed and turned to Bailey.
