"I need to go see your brother."

Jerome set down his cup of coffee. He raised his aggravated gaze. She was standing in front of the kitchen table and was not in the mood for an argument this morning and did not give him a chance to respond.

"I just wanted you to know where I was going."

Mercedes cringed when Jerome obnoxiously slurped his coffee. Sitting down his coffee, it prepared him to oppose her adventure.

"And you want to do that because?"

Mercedes tried to give him a reassuring smile. He saw right through it. Mercedes set her cup of coffee on the table.

"I want to know that truth. I know that it was probably manipulation, but I want him to tell me that. I want him to know that I don't appreciate it. I can't be lied to anymore. Especially by someone who I care about and claims to care about me too."

Jerome groaned. He understood, but he hated the fact that it was his brother.

"Does it really have to been Jeremiah? Why him?"

A heavy breath left Mercedes, and she uncrossed her arms.

"Jerome you know I can't help this... It's not like I told my heart to be stupid on purpose..."

Jerome stood up and walked to her side. He lifted her chin.

"I didn't say that. Let me take you. He owes you an explanation."

Mercedes shook her head.

"He won't give it to me with you there."

Jerome rolled his eyes. His thumb gently rubbed her cheek.

"Then let me get you through the city and almost there. I would feel a lot better knowing you are safe."

Mercedes traced down his jawline with her fingertips. She smiled a bright smile that reminded Jerome how much he loved her.

"Okay. Even though I know I can take care of myself. Also.. you didn't shave.."

Jerome leaned down and gently pressed his lips into hers.

"You said you liked it. I thought I'd leave for a while for you. Let me get ready real quick."

Mercedes laughed and raised her eyebrows.

"I love it. We don't need more than one small weapon, Jerome."

Jerome stopped in his tracks and turned around, disappointed.

"Jerome we are not showing up at your brother's bunker with a shitload of weapons. It looks like war."

Jerome laughed loudly.

"It's not war Jerome. I just need to talk to him."

"Fine."

Jerome grumbled as he left the kitchen.

"Okay I can get there from here. You know it's not far."

Jerome pulled Mercedes into a hug and kissed her head.

"Be safe. Come back right here if anything happens before you reach him."

Mercedes smiled and nodded.

Mercedes reached the bunker and the door instantly opened. Mercedes stared at Ecco confused. Ecco groaned as she stepped aside so Mercedes could walk in. Mercedes walked into Jeremiah's study and he looked up from his work with a smile.

"Mercedes. What a beautiful surprise."

He stood up and his expression changed.

"Though you didn't have to bring Jerome.."
