Chapter 8 - You're right sweetheart

I heard sirens coming from a distance. All I could focus on was my brother, Kevin. His car ran straight into a nearby tree causing the bonnet of his car to bend in and the windscreen shattered. Smoke from the car filling the air.

The girl was trying to pull open the bent door, screaming something, calling out to me?

It's then I realise my feet has been stuck to the same place for the past five minutes staring at them, all I remember was my phone being grabbed from me, then wondering what could possibly have happened.

She calls out to me again. It's then my heart starts pumping really fast, my legs start moving, my brain starts actually processing what was happening. I needed to save my brother,

Oh my god, what if the car blows up,

No it possibly couldn't

But what if he's dead,

No think positive thoughts

I could feel a trail of tear run down my face at the thought, thereafter, uncontrollable tears run down. With me sniffing, trying to wipe off the snot from my face, I get to the door, it was so dented I didn't think we could pull it open, but I still tried, holding on tightly to the handle, I struggled with all my strength with the help of the unknown girl, but nothing.

Through the glass, I could see his head against the dashboard,

Blood, blood everywhere

He had passed out, I needed to get him out of there before anything happened. He was my other half and I couldn't live without him. I was panicking now, kicking and punching the door, screaming for my twin with tears running down my face.

I am suddenly dragged back by a strong arm, while the other grabs the girl beside me, pulling us to the side. I scream flailing my arms trying to reach out to the car, but someone whispers in my ear, "calm down, we'll get him out of there, now I need you to pull yourself together, hold on tight and pray for his well-being" all this was said by Adam, while through my blurry vision I could see John trying to peel off the door.

"Is that okay?"

"Yeah" I say through shaky breath.

Thereafter I was left by the side of the road watching my two elder brothers save my twin from the smoking car. In all of this I didn't realise my mum was full on sobbing while my dad held her back trying to calm her down.

The ambulance arrived just in time as they pulled Kev out of the car, the attendants ran straight to them putting him on a stretcher. I run towards them, trying to reach out for him but they stop me.

"Please, p..please, let me go with him, he's my twin, p..please" I plead with them while sobbing uncontrollably with my hands folded together.

"But ma'am, your hands" I nurse said.

"What's wrong with my hands" it's then I looked down to see in all of this I didn't realise my hands were bleeding from trying to force the door open. "Don't worry about me, him first, I'll do something about this later, please" I point at him frantically shaking my head.

They agree, though making sure my hand had stopped bleeding, I jumped into the ambulance, by Kev's side, pleading and praying he was alright, while they provided him with first aid.

I won't be able to live with myself in anything happened to him.

We reach the hospital where we were ushered in a rush into the building. Kev was rushed in, while I was trailing behind trying to catch up with them. My family members came in not too long after all trying to calm themselves, while I sit patiently and might I add quietly trying to gather my thoughts.

Adam plops down on the sit next to me, wraps his arms around me pulling me to his chest. While I nuzzle my head into his chest inhaling his scent, John plops down beside me on my right side, intertwining our hands he mutters 'everything will be alright', he pecks our intertwined hands. But I feel a tear drop, and I whip my head to face him. There was nothing but my red eyed brother staring down at our hands. I glance at everyone, my brothers looked like a mess, my dad was trying to be strong for my mum but I could tell there was a serious discussion that was going to be addressed sooner or later.

At this I knew I needed to do something about this situation. I couldn't just sit down and sulk. I wasn't that kind of person, I was a strong independent person who can't stand her family being in such a condition. I knew because my brother was currently in the operation theater didn't mean I shouldn't own up to my responsibilities. I knew everyone was going to blame themselves, so there was  no need for me to

So I stood up determining in my mind that I've got to do something and not sit back watching everyone like this. I held in my heartbreak looking at the theater door. My brothers give me a questionable look as I release my hands from John.

"Excuse me" I give them a reassuring smile, stalking off to the bathroom with my phone.

The same phone I went to get.

Kev please, please be strong for me.

I pull open the door to the restroom, entering inside. I walk straight to the sink. Looking at my awfully tear stained face, I splash water on my face, trying my best to look clean and better. I dab my face with a napkin I got.

I then speed dial my friends, they all answering on the first pick. I told them every single detail about the accident and what hospital they all promised to be here in minutes which I was grateful for.

Then I walked out of the stall, heading towards the waiting room, where my parents and siblings were. I walked up to my mum first, engulfing her in a hug, she immediately hugged me back tighter, pouring so much emotions into it. She was crying profusely when she said "my baby, I'm so sorry you have to have through this" she runs her hand through my hair, untangling the knots.

Sometimes I wonder how the knots get there

"Mom it's okay, but what is not okay is you crying like this, it's like you're mourning him, but mum he isn't dead, he's very much alive, struggling and we need to help him in that struggle, even if it means we sit quietly praying to God." I say in one breath.

Mom produced a strained smile but a proud one "You're right, sweetheart".
