I twirled in my strapless burnt orange free gown. My black heels adding a few inches to my height. I smacked my glossy lips together, running my pedicured nails through my hair and smoothening down the edges of my dress. "How do I look?" I asked my friends.
They looked at me from head to toe, circling round me. They gave each other high fives, "we did great!" They praised themselves.
"So I'm amusing I look great as well?" I asked them, twirling my finger round a strand of my hair. I felt a slap on my hands. "Ow!" I yelled.
"Remove your dirty hands from that hair now. Do you know how long it took me to curl it" Scarlett asked eyes wide.
"Uuuhh, do you know how long it took for me to sit still, why you were all working" I retorted.
She crossed her arms over her chest, "right, the more reason to not spoil it"
I rolled my eyes at her, "that doesn't spoil it!" I whined at her as I picked up a strand again about to play with it when another slap to my hand made me want to ruin the makeup that had been done for me by Charis.
"Don't you dare release those tears!" Charis yelled, "I swear to God Krystal, if anything happens to that makeup, you'll never hear the end of it"
"Sure, though I'm pretty sure one day you'll die and I'd get to hear the end of it"
She shook her head at me and I let out a snivel. She gestured for me to have a sit on her bed. I obliged, "hey Krystal" Charis muttered, placing her hands on mine.
"Mmm" I responded, staring at my floor, suddenly finding the complex pattern the most interesting thing. She placed a strand of falling hair behind my ear.
"You know everything's gonna be okay right?" I nodded. Scarlett sighed, squatting in front of me, both her hands on my knees.
"Look, every guy isn't the same. I know this boyfriend thing has been hard for you. I know you're not interested in trying to take this relationship farther-" I cut her off.
"I don't know what you're talking about. There's not even a relationship" I was cut off as well.
"Krystal!"
"What?" I whined.
"Try okay, at least try"
I sighed. I didn't want to get down to this topic. This was the dreaded speech I was given every single time I was to go on a date. I just wanted to have fun for the love of me. Just like he had fun. I wanted to have fun. Bringing this over and over again didn't help at all. I wanted it buried...very buried. I didn't need it affecting my daily life. I avoided this topic at all cost
Yet, here we were going over this topic over and over again
"Whatever, just...it will soon be time to go" I stood up then walked out of the room.
................
********A knock on the door brought me back to my senses, "yes?" I called out. I was staring at my reflection in the mirror, giving myself a pep talk.
We can do this, just walk out there, deliver the blows and we're good to go
...
Right?
Uhhhh
"Krystal? Are you alright in there?" Scarlett called out. I sighed not bothering to answer after her next statement. "Come on, it's time to go"
I stalked out of the bathroom, walking straight to the front door. I saw Charis talking to someone at the other end. I reached out to them when Charis turned back with a wistful smile on her face.
