[Sanji x Archer!Reader : Plucking at Heartstrings]
_______
Contrary to apparently popular belief, you didn't hate Sanji. You didn't hate his flirting tendencies or anything, either. You honestly had nothing against the guy. But it seemed pretty different on the outside, at least according to Nami.
"It really seems like it, you know."
"Oh, that's my bad," you muttered, running your bow string between your thumb and forefinger, debating whether or not you should replace it yet.
She frowned. "You should try talking to him. He thinks you do hate him."
You glanced up and sighed. "I'll talk with him when I get the chance. Could we work on those shocking arrows now?"
"Alright," she agreed, huffing. "Let's work on them."
Ignoring the tiny nagging and tugging of guilt of coming across like that, you listened and sketched a few things down as Nami explained how everything worked, eventually having to call in Usopp and Franky to help work on it in engineer's terms over meteorologist terms. It eventually led to Franky having a sudden, brilliant idea for some lightning cannon, Usopp trailing right behind him to the workshop.
You were out soon after, thanking Nami and going to your room to work on the idea. You whistled quietly as you fiddled with the arrows and technique to get the electricity to work. Some three hours later, a loud Usopp and twice as loud Luffy announced land in view. You stocked the several arrows you'd finished into your quiver and grabbed your bow, heading out.
"I'll scout," you offered.
"Thanks, (Y/N)!" Luffy said. "Do you need me to launch yo---"
"Please don't."
"Right, call us if something goes wrong," Nami said, calling after you as you used your skywalk to get to the island.
You hopped into the trees and paused for a moment, listening for voices or signs of human movement. You caught on quickly, noting the consistent footsteps and harsh voices. An army, either one from the island or a base from the Marines.
You stalked over, careful not to shake the trees too much to find the group.
"Find anyone?"
You practically jumped out of the tree, spinning around and pulling your dagger from your belt and aiming the blade at him. You swiped out of instinct, so thank god Sanji dodged in time.
"(Y/N)-chan, it's just me. Calm down."
You took a deep, shaky breath as you sheathed your knife and swallowed, trying to slow your heartbeat. "What're you doing here?" you hissed.
"Making sure you're alright, of course. It's dangerous to let a lady go in alone."
"This 'lady' is more than capable of taking care of herself, thank you very much. Now hush, they're getting closer."
Your head snapped right and you climbed higher up, hearing Sanji follow painfully noisily. You cringed with every branch he stepped on, trying to ignore it.
"What's going on?"
"The Marines," you whispered, watching the white and blue uniformed men march back and forth. You heard men shouting, and you were pretty sure they spotted the ship.
You clicked your tongue and nocked an arrow, pulling back and firing at the leader of one of the squads, quickly firing a newly made shock arrow in the middle of the group, successfully zapping everyone in the couple metre radius. Hopefully, it was enough voltage to kill them, but it definitely at least knocked them out and charred their skin and first layer of flesh.
"We should go back and report---"
"It'd be easier just to take the base out now. No need to bother them. Feel free to, though. Here's the mini den den mushi," you said, setting it onto the branch as you sped through the leaves and up a cliff, where it seemed the base was.
You sent shock arrows straight into the base, striking out enough Marines to leave you with maybe 30 left.
"(Y/N)-chan, you're going to get hurt. It's a whole base---"
"It's a very small base, and I've taken on larger," you said simply. "You're welcome to lea---fuck!"
You could feel a sword slash rip through your back, and you swiftly turned to knock the soldier out, and further down the hall was a group of Marines firing.
Sanji picked you up and fled, using his own version of skywalk to get away.
"Go on, say it. 'I told you so', 'look what happened', even though everything would've been fine without distractions," you said, embarrassed and frustrated.
"I'm terribly sorry, (Y/N)-chan. I never meant to let you get hurt, this is my fault."
You paused. "What?"
"Please forgive me." He looked in your eyes, his blue eye sparkling with pure remorse.
He held your much more calloused hand as he landed back on the ship, Chopper immediately rushing out noticing the flowing blood.
"I... Thanks, you're forgiven, but..."
You couldn't finish your sentence, too confused about it and too suddenly tired to complete it anyway.
