seth's hand gripped sasha's tightly. his eyes squeezed shut, hearing the girl's screams.
they'd been stuck like this for what seemed like hours. her body was dangling off the sky-scrapingly tall cliff, only being held up by her boyfriend.
harsh waters destroyed all life below them, pounding on anything in its way.
they skies above them roared with thunder, an occasional bolt of lightening striking.
sasha's screams grew louder and louder. the pouring rain was clawing at the couple's grip, desperately trying to break the two away.
"colby, help!"
he was doing all he could. he desperately wanted to pull her up but he couldn't. it was like a force was pulling sasha away from him. he wasn't strong enough.
"you said you'd protect me! you promised!" she cried, legs kicking at the air.
seth's arms were burning. he was putting everything into saving her.
"baby, i'm trying," he breathed.
he couldn't do it. he couldn't save her.
he looked into her fearful eyes, wincing at the pain they brought him.
"i love you," she whispered.
in an instant the young girl was gone, falling to her dreaded death.
seth screamed in horror, pounding his fists against the wet ground below him.
he failed her.
his dark eyes shot open, as his body jolted him upwards. his breaths were heavy, as if he were gasping for air.
"merc?" he whispered looking to his left.
there she was. peacefully curled up under the comforter, hair spread across the white pillows.
he sighed in relief, falling back against the bed. he pulled her into his arms, bringing her body close to his.
a small groan escaped her lips as she turned to face him, eyes struggling to stay open.
"baby what's wrong?" she yawned, hearing his loud heart beat against her ear.
"just a dream. i thought you were gone," he whispered, bringing his lips to the top of her head.
she gave him a small smile, lightly trailing her thumb across his cheek, cupping the side of his face in her hand.
he melted into her warm touch, letting her cover his face in kisses.
"i will never leave you. i promise," she reached out to hold his hand, "not now. not next week. not ever, okay?"
he nodded, pulling her small body over his and burying his face into the crook of her neck.
