M I K E

It's getting tiring. I sigh as I slam the button on my alarm clock. 6:30. Time for practise.

I open the huge closet and get the one of the hoodies Harry bought me, then I get one of the jeans. He got me no sweatpants.

No sweatpants? Can you imagine living without sweatpants?

I sigh, putting on the worn out nikes I had on when I came here and then I walk downstairs. In the kitchen I take one of the sandwiches Zayn made yesterday from the fridge.

I take it in my mouth as I get a waterbottle from the fridge and close the container with sandwiches.

Once in the practise room I set down the bottle and finish the sandwich before I start setting up the bass.

I start by playing Riptide. It's definitely not my favorite song, but it's easy to play and it's early and I need to warm my fingers before I start practising Paint Your Wings, which has an epic bass line.

I start quietly singing along, telling myself it's just because I don't want to lose track of what I'm playing.

I finish the song without any mistakes. Now Paint Your Wings.

That is a different story.

I barely get though the first verse before I made a mistake.

I sigh.

It's not that hard Mike. Just keep playing.

No. Not that again.

I start over again.

I look at the tabs. Start singing along.
Start thinking about techniques Niall told me.
"I know it's hard to keep moving your fingers an entire song long and keep up with the tabs, but you have to find a pattern. If there's an 0 there's often a 1 behind it. See? You just gotta find those patterns. Gotta remember them. Listen the music a lot"

"I can't remember full songs like this either, but I know Calum can. If you need it I'll ask Louis to give him a call. Pretty sure Louis has the number of all of the 5sos boys."

"I contacted Calum. He said to look for patterns, and the chorus is the most important to remember. You need to play the chorus, so if you really can't remember verses you can just not play there and make the chorus a lot more intense. Only do that for difficult songs though."

I shake my head. Back to the tabs.

Back to the deep bass.

I keep going after one mistake.

At the end I made three.

Three isn't bad. It isn't good either.
And I need perfect.

I start playing again. And again. And again.

"Mike?" Alex' blue hair peeks from behind the door, and then I see their eyes as well.
