I bit my lip and didn't know what else to say. I was just begging for someone to break the tension but it wasn't gonna be me! Then Jonah clears his throat, "It's been a while."
I nodded, "Yeah."
He looks at me up and down, honestly I feel like I haven't changed at all since the last time he saw me. "You look great."
I half smiled and looked up and down at him, all I can say is wow this boy really looks like he grew the hell up. Like honestly, I thought Jonah Frantzich was hot before but boy was I wrong. "You too."
Then it's an awkward silence again until my sound engineer comes out, "Ava, hi!" Derrick says to me and pulls me in for a hug, "You are early which means you're on time, and I still love you for that, now let's go." He pulls me into the recording studio. "Which songs were you recording today?"
"Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande and possibly another if ready." I told him.
He nods, "Okay, warm up and let's get this."
~~~~~~~~
"Somethin' bout you makes me feel like a dangerous woman." I stretched my voice out, it felt so raw, we've had so many takes and I think this is the one. "Somethin bout, somethin bout, somethin bout," I prepared myself for another stretch, "makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't!" I watched the boys jaw drop, "Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout you." I take a deep breath, "All girls wanna be like that, bad girls underneath like that that, You know how I'm feeling inside. Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, All girls wanna be like that, Bad girls underneath like that. You know how I'm feeling inside." It finishes and then Derrick plays my previously recorded overlays and I wait for the criticism to follow.
The boys converse on the other side of the mirror, I couldn't hear them at all until Daniel pushes the button, "Ava, come back here and listen to yourself, you sound amazing!" He says and I smile, taking the headphones off and walking over to them.
Derrick pushes play on the track and I couldn't believe that was me singing. It did sound amazing. "Wait hold on!" I said and realized how raw my voice was and quieted down, "Is that really me?" I asked them.
"Yes!" All three say in unison.
I blushed, "Okay well you guys stay here, I'm getting water." I said to them and left.
"Oh I'll go too." Jonah says and I freeze while touching the cool handle of the door that led out of our studio. My anxiety took over and I panicked but I still walked down so I was panicking while walking with Jonah to the icebox. "Soooo." He starts.
"So?" I questioned him hoping we could have just walked in awkward silence.
"It's been a while." He says.
I nod. "Yep."
Jonah stops and faces me, "Ava, can we hang out?" He asks.
I froze, "What?"
Jonah looks at the ground the same way he used to, "You know what I said."
"Jonah, I don't know..." I trailed off.
He hands me a water and I take it our hands touched and I felt the electricity spark in me again like it did so many years ago. It really still hasn't changed. "You can't tell me, you don't still feel that."
