15. The Sons Of Atom

MacCready's POV

I woke up, my head throbbing and a mouthful of dirt.

My hat was infront of me on the ground and I grabbed for it,

I sat on my shins and put my hat back on checking I had everything,

And then I remembered...

(Y/N)!

I scrambled to my feet and looked to the top of the hill,

I couldnt see her,

I began to panic as I sprinted back down the hill...

I ran towards the lake and saw groups of dead Ferals all around and--

"(Y/N)!"

I rushed towards the broken power armour that was on it's back ok the ground.

I managed to break off the dented helmet and (Y/N) was out cold,

I immediately gave her a stimpack and some rad-x.

I sat for a while with my gun in my hands to make sure none of the ferals got up...

"...RJ..?"

I turned to see (Y/N) start to sit up, I helped her and fitted her helmet back on.

"You alright in there?"

I asked with a smile to the power amour.

"I think so? But i thought i got you over the hill..?"

She said, i rolled me eyes grinning ar her,

"You really think I was gonna leave you behind?"

I picked up her gun which was beside her and she climbed to her feet,

I handed her her gun and slowly we climbed back up the hill and towards the crater filled with houses...

We walked past a couple of people who gave us strange looks.

I still want feeling 100% but I needed to atleast stay conscious for (Y/N) sake.

We approached a woman who stood on a porch,

Her short black hair was in a tangled mess and her eyes were wide and bloodshot.

"Stop right there strangers."

The woman said to us 

"You approach Atom's holy ground... why? State your purpose or be divided in his sight."

I looked awkwardly to (Y/N), I couldn't see her face as she turned back to the woman.

"Holy ground? Atom? What is going on here?"

She asked confused,

The woman seemed shocked,

"Atom reached out and touched this world, bringing his glow to us. It remains to this day a reminder of his promise. Infinite worlds through division..."

This lady was insane...

I looked at her with such a confused and worried face, but she didnt seem to notice.

Maybe all the radiation had gotten to her head?

(Y/N) nodded,

"I'm looking for someone named virgil. Have you seen him?"

The woman clasped her hands together,

"Yes. I know of him... in truth this Virgil caused some concern. Some believe his presence is an affront to Atom."

The woman looked at me then (Y/N),

"Though he came to trade with us on a few occasions, we have had little other contact with him. It was quite clear he wanted to be left alone. You can find him southwest of the crater, living in a cave. I would approach cautiously, were I you, i feel he does not want visitors."

(Y/N) looked back at me and nodded,

"Thank you miss."

After the two of us took more rad-x and (Y/N) managed to reload her gun, we left towards the southwest side.

We hiked for a while before we finally saw a cave...

The cave door was too small for (Y/N) armour to fit through...

(PS I know that's not true but I just want her out of the armour-)

She climbed out after talking more rad-x and headed into the cave.

I followed,

She managed to move her way between the tin can alarms and none of the turrets shot at us, I followed quickly,

She abruptly stopped and I bumped into her,

I apologised quickly but then almost choked on the air,

A giant Super Mutant stood in front of us, he had round glasses on that barely fit him,

I quickly stepped in front of (Y/N) and raised my gun at the Super Mutant.
(Y/N) put a hand on my shoulder as the super mutant didnt move to harm us,

"...so... the institute finally caught up to me...
You're here to kill me aren't you?"

A/N: AAAAAHHHHH! Sorry it's so short, I've been writing a Newt X Reader story behind the scenes and will be releasing it soon!

RJ: you wont forget about me will you?

A/N: of course not Mac! Updates jsut might be slow, with my writing Newt stuff and school.
