22. In-Institute

MacCready POV

"You sure about this?"

"Positive, ye have little faith RJ!"

(Y/N) laughed,

She had told me that she got a call from Preston and Sturges saying the Molecular Machine was complete,

"I'm just concerned is all, we dont even know how this things works! And now Sturges wants to send you through-"

"Correction I made him promise me that I'd be the first one through, besides it's a 2 way trip for 1 person and for only 1 person."

She gave me a look,

"And that means just me Mac."

She said,

I nodded but I wasnt convinced this would go well,

"...if something goes wrong you jump off that platform ok?"

She laughed but didnt answer as we finally made it back to Sanctuary.

"Oh good you're back!"

Sturges said as he rushed towards us from the back part of Sanctuary,

"Come on then!"

He dragged the two of us towards the giant Signal Intrcepter, or atleast that's what he called it.

Preston was there, he was fiddling with some controls,

"Alright. Everything looks good on my end. You ready to see if this thing actually works?"

(Y/N) hand slipped out of mine as she walked towards the machine.

"Shouldn't you test it first?"

I asked, worried for (Y/N),

Sturges looked up from the funny looking keyboard,

"I wish we could, but we only have the one frequency code. Theres no way to test it without actually jacking into the institutes signal. And as soon as we've done that, we've used our one and only chance."

That just made me more nervous,

"As soon as the institute figures out what we're doing- and I gotta believe those brainiac's wont be napping twice- that code we've got is useless."

I looked at (Y/N) with my brows furrowed, she looked just as nervous but pulled her eyes away from me over to Sturges,

"Let's do this."

She said, her voice a little quiet,

"You sure?"

She nodded,

"...ok! Your part is simple, just step on the platform."

(Y/N) nodded again and was about to step on the platform but the I grabbed her arm,

She spun around looking at my hand that held her arm then up to me,

"...please be careful..."

I said,

She stepped closer and wrapped me in a hug, I held her closer.

"I'll be fine."

I nodded resting my head on her shoulder,

"Mac... RJ, love, I'll be alright."

I realised I was still holding her tight and gave her a final squeeze before letting go,

She gave me a kiss that promised more and pulled away with a reassuring smile.

"Ill see you soon."
