ONLY YESTERDAY
We are taken on a journey with our main character Taeko, a single woman going on a farming holiday to the countryside. Throughout her journey to her destination and in her holiday itself, she catches glimpses of fifth grade Taeko and recalls several memories that took place during that time.
I personally think this movie had a good starting idea. It's pretty cool seeing what our main character has gone through over the years.
But then why is it so low?
Some of her, I guess 'flashbacks' seemed out of the blue. I don't understand why we suddenly cut to her family adoring a pineapple that had yet to be ripe, or why she compared understanding life to understanding dividing with fractions.
But the main reason why it's given my 21st choice is very stupid and all my unqualified opinion. We are given a flashback of her fifth grade 'love life', and once again I don't remember why (I probably should've rewatched the movie before writing this, sorry guys). We are introduced to Hirota, a guy her age who had a crush on her and honestly it was cute and I shipped it. I shipped it hard.
When she arrived at the station we are introduced to Toshio, the main love interest. Now, I didn't really mind Toshio, but at the end, Taeko gets off her train to BE with TOSHIOOOO!!
I was rooting for her and Hirota, so much so I ended up hating Toshio and not liking the movie as much as I did. Even her not ending up with anyone would've been better.
I know this is dumb and I shouldn't let my little fan-girling brain get in the way of a decent movie, but it got to me, maybe even a little too much.
