Living underneath a suburban home, Arrietty and her parents stay hidden away from dangerous humans. This is until Arrietty meets Shawn (or Sho, but for the sake of keeping things consistent and easier for me I will say Shawn), a boy with a heart condition. The two become closer and develop a secret friendship between each other.

The story, like a few other Studio Ghibli movies, has a very basic, yet well executed story.
I'm not sure why I thought Arrietty was a fairy but she is instead a 'borrower'. Tiny human beings who borrow basic living necessities from big human beings. Similar to the book and movie The Borrowers.
There are many great things about this movie, from the characters, the scenery, the action scenes and the theme song which is amazing, catchy and kind of creepy sounding. Not to make it sound bad or anything.

I would like to quickly address how absolutely stunning the dollhouse is. So intricately detailed and not to mention very pretty. It's a shame it was never actually used for the purpose it was built.

The film is all fun and games until we get to the ending.
Because Arrietty and her parents were discovered by the home owners, they had to relocate. This meant that Shawn and Arrietty had to say their goodbyes which was emotional and tear-jerking to say the least. I cried, but only a little.

My only problem. Shawn is supposed to be a 12 year old boy, and I don't know about you, but he does not look 12. He looks more 15-16, however my sister thinks he looks 14. Nevertheless, he looks older than 12. Like he's pretty tall and his voice is pretty deep. Maybe puberty paid its visit a little earlier.

Overall, the movie is actually really good, and I'm not sure why I don't hear more people talking about it. I reckon it definitely deserves the this spot high up on the list.
