Another week, another new chapter.
Enjoy!!
~Carter~
"Okay, boys, what's it gonna be for lunch?" I asked, hoping that neither one of Nora's son's requested anything harder than chicken nuggets. As much as I tried, I was pretty useless in the kitchen—probably the only trait I hadn't inherited from my mom.
"Cheeseburgers," Ethan said with a wide-eyed smile.
"Yeah," Lucas agreed, turning away from my iPad that I had let him download games on for our little weekend together. While I had no qualms about watching the boys while Nora and Cash went to Kansas to chase down a lead, I hadn't realized how much work two boys would be. They were well behaved and for the most part, pretty much like little angels, but I hadn't considered that watching over them would mean I would be stuck in the house along with them all weekend.
"With french fries," Lucas added. "And lots of ketchup."
I smiled, happily accepting the fact that this was grounds for ordering Uber Eats and charging it to Cash's credit card. At least I had a justifiable reason for it this time. The last time I'd done it was because the girls and I had smoked up and had a serious case of the munchies. After I so generously volunteered to foot the bill, my brother bitched me out for charging over a hundred dollars to his credit card. But hey, what was a girl to do? I was high and hungry.
"You too Ethan?" I asked, earning nothing more than a nod. The kid couldn't be bothered to turn away from the TV and dare miss a minute of Paw Patrol. I guess Nora hadn't been big on distracting her kids with technology before, but I was not against using it to help me get through this weekend.
"Two chocolate shakes for dessert?" I suggested, finally getting some attention.
Both boys turned around and lit up with the biggest smiles I had seen all day. They had been sad to say goodbye to Nora and quiet all morning, but the prospect of getting chocolate put a smile on both of their faces real quick.
"Yeah!" They both cheered in unison.
I shook my head and let out a laugh. "Sounds good."
God bless the lazy fucker who came up with this idea. How else would I get Mickey D's without setting foot outside?
I hooked a left down the hallway and headed into the kitchen where Ricky was seated at the table. He had been here since I woke up, serving as our personal babysitter until Cash and Nora came back.
"Hey, Rick. I'm gonna order burgers and fries for the kids. You want anything?" I questioned. "It's on Cash," I smiled, dangling my brother's credit card in front of him.
Ricky shook his head with a smirk and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Really? Stealing Cash's card again?" he asked, half amused.
I shrugged. "He wouldn't want me and the boys to starve now, would he?"
"What about all the food in the fridge?" he fired back.
I let out a laugh. "We all know I can't cook for shit."
"True," Ricky agreed. "Remember that time you tried to do taco night?" he said, his expression turning horrified, almost as if the memory pained him to think about.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I remember."
The food I made may or may not have given everyone the runs.
I still wasn't sure what had happened there, but let's just say the guys tended to avoid any food I had a hand in making after that.
"Anyway, you want something or not?" I asked, changing the subject.
