We're getting so close to the end and as always, I'm both excited and extremely sad, especially since I still haven't decided if this will be the last book or not.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy chapter 37!
~Carter~
"What are you talking about?" I asked my brother, suddenly begging to feel my heart beat a million miles a minute. "What's going on?" I questioned, although I already had a strong feeling I knew exactly what this was about.
It was only a matter of time before everyone found out what we were really up to. At this point, it was pretty apparent to both of my parents, and the rest of the club that Bucky and I had run away together. Bucky and I had to block all of them from being able to call or text us, cos our phones had been blowing up with missed calls and text messages demanding that one of us contact someone. Cash's was the only number we allowed access to reach us because he was the only one who knew close to the full story—minus the marriage part.
Well, at least I thought he didn't know about that.
We'd lost the element of surprise about running away the night we had left town together, but I had thought we'd be able to keep the marriage thing under wraps for at least a few more days.
My brother let out an annoyed groan and I knew that if I could see him right now, his fists would be clenched and the vein in his neck protruding forward with anger.
"Married, Carter? You two got fucking married!" he yelled.
I winced at his tone, reaching for Bucky's hand for reassurance. He squeezed it, letting me know he was here for me while he shot me a sympathetic look. He knew that this was my conversation to have with my brother, and it was best if I did it alone, without any kind of intervention from him. Cash was too pissed off to even hear what Bucky might have to say, so it was up to me to explain our actions.
"Well, shit, Mack works faster than I thought," I began, hoping that if I started off with humor, it might lighten Cash up a bit.
It didn't.
"Tell me you're fucking kidding! Tell me you did not run off to Vegas and marry this poor fucker and the paperwork Mack found is wrong, or that you didn't actually go through with it," My brother rambled.
I let out a breath, fumbling with my fingers. "I could tell you that, but I don't really see the point of lying to you now," I told him bravely.
What point would it serve to come this far with Cash only to lie to him now? They would confirm it was true in a short time, so lying to him now, although easier for the moment would only come back to bite me in the ass later. It was best to rip off the band aid now for at least one man in my family.
There was a moment of silence on his end until I heard something smash to the ground and inevitably break into a million pieces. I wasn't sure what it was, but judging by the sound of Nora's surprised shriek in the background, I was sure it was some kind of breakable home décor item that was now laying on his floor while we continued this phone-call.
"Are you insane?" My brother raged. "Why the fuck would you get married? You're eighteen years old, what possible reason could you have to get married at eighteen?"
"Are you kidding?" I asked, interrupting him. "Cash, I don't know where the fuck you've been living for the past week, but dad was never going to accept this any other way. Bucky and I love each other and getting married was the only way to prove to you all just how much, so yes I got married at eighteen, but I'm pretty fucking sure that I had a damn good reason, beyond just the fact that I love him more than anything!" I yelled right back.
