The air blew a bit cooler than it usually did that time of year. Boston wasn't the type of place that got bogged down with humidity. Any trace usually was erased when dusk fell.
Noah stood at the corner of Washington and Kneeland just outside China town. Dressed in a casual v-neck tee and jeans he seemed out of place for a quick bite to eat after a long day of meetings. He was certainly waiting for someone to arrive. Someone that caused him to check his phone every minute or so.
It didn't take long - two maybe three minutes - before his eyes caught sight of something. Or rather, someone, that generated a large smile to his previous stoic expression. Whoever it was meant something to him.
It was a young woman in a hurry, oblivious to the world hustling about her. Her hair pooled at the shoulders, a natural mess of brown curl and wave. From a distance, it seemed she wore no makeup, but upon closer inspection, a mixture of light neutral colors painted her face.
She was raw, beautiful and completely unaware of the man only a few feet away captivated by her presence. He had noticed her though. In seconds his eyes had found her. This was the someone he waited for. This was the woman that meant so much.
She radiated nerves, in a way that was both humorous and endearing. Her hands twisted the cord of her handbag while her eyes scanned the crowded street. She seemed overwhelmed, worried almost. It was the reason she looked right through him.
Noah watched her, studied her even, as she continued to fidget with her purse. It was enough to cause his lips to curve slowly to the sky. The smile said it all, he liked her. He undeniably liked her.
For a moment they stood there, both in their own separate worlds. She, a ball of emotions and him, silently observing her for the first time. Any moment now they would collide, poised composure and wild elegance.
In a hurried rush, she reached within her bag to withdraw her phone. A few swipes later it rested on her ear and she glanced around once more. It was almost entertaining, her lack of observance. Noah hadn't tried to conceal himself. Not once.
He began to shake his head and his frame gently shook from humor. His hand dipped into his jean pocket to reveal his own cell.
"I'm here...where are you?" She questioned, her back now turned on the place where Noah stood watching. The person she so desperately sought.
"Behind you." He chuckled, his orbs now alive with humor.
One, she spun around.
Two, her eyes found Noah's.
Three, Luca's blood ran unbearably cold.
