Adam huffed at the exhibition he caused. The crumpled and destroyed Scorpion was sitting atop an equally ruined power generator. He felt someone tap him on the shoulder. Instinctively, he whirled around with his Shotgun raised. What he saw was a black visor staring back at him, but his brain only registered the black and he pulled the trigger of his gun. Kate gasped, but was relieved to hear the gun click empty.
“Holy shit! I thought you were... you were...” Adam couldn’t say it; he was still trying to get over his fright.
“If I was an Xenomorph, you’d be dead. Good thing I’m not one and you managed to find something to waste your ammo on.” Adam blushed and quickly shoved in six new shells. “Try not to shoot me.” Kate smirked, not that Adam could see that; she still had her helmet. Adam had left his in the Scorpion, and was probably not going to get it back anytime soon. Thunder roared in the distance and it was soon pouring with rain. The drops stung as they impacted on the more vulnerable parts of their armour, and the ODSTs realised that it was raining large chunks of ice. It wasn’t snowing; this was a full-out downpour of momentous ice that felt like rocks when hitting your body. They sprinted away, trying to find some kind of shelter. After ten minutes, it suddenly stopped. Adam took his arms off his head and looked around. They were now in a desert. It was like there was a line cut through the land. On one side, there was the ice raining down and piling up on the ground, and on the other, harsh, dry desert. The two soldiers glanced at each other in confusion. Then they jumped and raised their weapons as they heard a terrifying screech. Three Xenomorphs were headed their way, bruised and bloodied by the unnatural rain. One was a Stalker Xenomorph, one was a Spitter Xenomorph, and the last was just a regular Xenomorph. The Stalker’s head exploded as a large chunk of ice went straight through its skull. The other two made it to the desert.
“The Spitter! Take out the Spitter!” Adam cried, diving away from a lethal spray of acid from the said Xenomorph. Kate whipped out her Rocket Launcher and fired both tubes at it. It hissed and let loose another spray of acid, disintegrating one of the missiles in midair. The other hit and took out a chunk from its shoulder.
“Reloading!” Kate shrieked, popping the Rocket Launcher open. Adam pumped his Shotgun and emptied it into the Spitter, taking out considerably smaller bits off the Xenomorph. Finally, Kate was able to lift her weapon back up and fire both tubes again just as the creature let loose another spray at Adam. Adam thankfully was able to roll away as the last of the Xenomorph exploded and acid from both its body and its acid pouches on its head rained down everywhere. However, Adam was left vulnerable from his evasive manoeuvre and Kate was left with an empty gun and no spare ammo, so when the Warrior Xenomorph loomed over Adam to strike, there was nothing either of them could do. The Xenomorph screeched and its tail went flying in Adam’s direction. A small dart embedded itself in the Xenomorph’s head. Its head snapped around to look at something, allowing Adam the leeway to struggle out of its grasp. It fixed its... it didn’t have eyes... it fixed its attention on Adam again. Then there was a beep and its head exploded. Adam cringed and shut his eyes, but the acid never touched his skin. He opened his eyes a crack and saw red metal with a glowing orange aura obscuring his vision. The shape unfolded, revealing a Spartan IV in red Hyabusa armour. The Spartan gave him a quick ‘You’re Welcome’ nod and walked off to check on Kate. Adam glanced around and saw four Pelicans hovering around them, unloading Spartan IVs by the dozen.
“Thank god for Armour Lock,” Adam muttered as he picked himself up off the ground.
“Alright Spartans, listen up. My name is Lieutenant Rogers, and I am your leader today. To your left, you will see one decapitated mother-fucker courtesy of Sergeant Loki over here. You have all been issued M363 Remote Projectile Detonators for just that purpose! For those of you with Rail Guns, you should probably stay back and allow others to buy you some time for them to charge up. Same goes for those of you with Sniper Rifles, we need you to have precise aim so we can send these alien bastards straight back to hell! Our objective is only one click north of here, so get ready for a sprint. We leave in thirty seconds!” The pale-blue Recon armoured Spartan stepped down from the Pelican and approached Kate and Adam. “You guys can tag along. Oh and... here, take these.” The Spartan handed them a Sticky Detonator each. He winked at them and jammed his helmet back on. Adam studied the ‘M363 Remote Detonator’ in great detail. The gun was strapped to a small box of grenades that had been altered to be fired from the gun and detonated remotely. The two ODSTs suddenly realised they were about to be left behind and quickly started sprinting.
