APHMAU'S POV

Aphmau stretched, yawning. Bright morning sunlight was filtering through the window. She yawned again, and then buried her face in the pillow. She didn't want to get up. The bed was warm and comfortable.

"Aph?" Aaron asked, poking his head through the crack in the door.

She groaned.

"I'm sleeping."

"Clearly."

"Snore. Snore. Snore."

"Uh huh. Well, I guess since you're asleep, you won't want pancakes."

Aphmau's head shot up.

"Food?"

"Pancakes are generally considered a food, yes."

"Hmm."

"Plus, you know, it's snowing."

"It is?" Aphmau exclaimed, jumping out of bed immediately.

Aaron rolled his eyes playfully.

"Of course that's what got you up."

"Food later. Snow first." She called to him, bolting out the door and down the stairs.

"You're still in your pajamas." He reminded her, but it was too late.

Aphmau was already outside, still in pajamas. She'd regret it later for sure, but SNOW! She wasn't the only one who was on the street in their pajamas anyway. Kawaii-Chan was already jumping up and down giggling like a crazy person, and Garroth was stretched out making a snow angel in the middle of the street.

The sit reminded her briefly of her trip with Lizzie, Aaron and Alina to get a relic months ago, but pushed it to the back of her mind. She had moved on, hadn't she? They all had. It didn't matter that Lizzie was technically her sister, her that Alina and Lilith were technically her daughters, she had moved on.

Unfortunately for her, she had evidently been standing still long enough to tempt an attack, and moments later found herself get hit in the back of the head by a snowball. She jumped in surprise and whirled around to find Aaron laughing at the bottom of the porch steps.

Unlike her, he had taken the time to get properly dressed.

"Aaron!" She cried, flailing her arms around dramatically, "I thought you loved me."

"I do. You were standing still for so long I thought you had frozen."

"I was thinking." She replied defensively.

"About what?"

"Nothing important." She dismissed after a moment of hesitation.

"If you say so. Now come back inside and have breakfast. You said you were meeting the girls to do Christmas decorating at ten, and it's already half past nine."

'Oh, right!" Aphmau remembered, lighting up like a Christmas tree.

She ran back inside, but not before kicking snow in Aaron's general direction as she passed him.

"I'm going to get you!" He cried.

She burst into maniacal laughter as she ran as fast as she could away from her snowy fiance.

KATELYN'S POV

"What about you Katelyn?" Kawaii-Chan asked, jolting the blue-haired girl back to reality.

She had been sitting against the wall staring off into the distance for almost the entirety of their conversation. She had absolutely no idea what she was being asked about.

"Uh..."

"Who would you date if you weren't dating your current partner?" Lucinda reminded her.

"Oh, we're talking about boys." Katelyn muttered.

"Not necessarily. I still remember Luka..." Aphmau smiled teasingly.

Katelyn glanced down at her lap, tears pricking her eyes. Not about Luka, even though their breakup had been her fault, and she did miss the bubbly girl, but about who she should have been dating. He wasn't here.

"Does anyone want more hot chocolate?" She asked abruptly, standing up and bolting from the room without waiting for a reply.

She reached the kitchen, making sure she was out of sight before sinking down the wall, burying her face in her arms and letting the tears fall for the first time in weeks.

The light sound of footsteps told her that Aphmau, Kawaii-Chan and Lucinda had followed her. One of them placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Was it Luka?" Aphmau whispered, "If it was, I'm sorry."

"No." She mumbled in reply.

"What's wrong?" Kawaii-Chan pressed gently.

"He loved Christmas. It was his favourite holiday." She said instead of answering outright.

She knew they got it. There was a long pause in which no one spoke.

"I thought you were over it." Lucinda muttered, "At least, beyond this stage."

"I don't think I'll ever be beyond this stage." Katelyn admitted, her voice breaking.

"Remember we're always here." Kawaii-Chan said, resting her head on Katelyn's shoulder.

"Thanks guys."

Katelyn lifted her head. Kawaii-Chan and Lucinda were on either side of her, and Aphmau was in front of her. The other girl's eyes were dark and gloomy, but there was something else. Something glittering in their depths. Hope.
