LIZZIE'S POV

It took a lot to get Aphmau to sleep that night. Even once the other girl had drifted off, Lizzie couldn't sleep. She ended up lying there, in the stifling darkness for hours. She didn't technically need to sleep, but it made time pass quicker.

There was nothing she urgently needed to do, which was almost disappointing for her. She had nothing to do but lie there. She had already spoken to Willow earlier, after ensuring that Aphmau was out of earshot.

She had known she was playing with fate by bringing two souls into the material world, even if they were in a spectral form, and even if it was only temporary.

Lizzie felt her heart involuntarily sink at that. She hadn't mentioned that to her not-sister. Keeping the spirits in this world required certain... other sacrifices. Sacrifices Aphmau wouldn't be willing to make and she certainly wasn't going to force her to.

They would cross that bridge when they came to it.

Lizzie sighed slightly, turning over so she was lying on her stomach. Another painful thought: her children. The myths that surrounded them were nowhere near as tragic as the real story.

She had had plenty of children over the years, she was thousands of years old. She had outlived them all.

Most had been from various mortal flings, and none of the children she kept. All were given to their fathers, but, they knew of their heritage, and some sought her out later in life. The few times she had allowed herself to be found, it had ended in heartbreak when they eventually did die.

But those four... they were pure divinity. Born that way because both of their parents were divine. Unlike Lizzie. Her powers stemmed from the celestial event that had occured the night she was born. A once in a million years event.

She should have died that night. She had been born with no air in her lungs, no beating heart. But it had made it beat. It had given her life- eternal life.

Her and the twins shared a birthday. It should have been their death day as well.

With that comforting thought in her mind, she drifted off into an uneasy sleep, and dreams full of what could have been.

She awoke what must have been hours later to Aphmau shaking her awake.

She groaned, rolling over, and swatting her away.

"Get up." Aphmau insisted.

Lizzie groaned again, sitting up and yawning. Her hair was a tangled mess, but as she combed her fingers through it, it regained its normal silky texture.

"Lucky." Aphmau muttered, causing the green-eyed girl to smile.

"Powerful." Lizzie corrected, getting to her feet.

All trace of drowsiness was gone.

"Good. You're up. Now, what are we doing for the boys. I mean, I never met them. I have no idea what to do. I have no idea what they're like. You said they're good people, but I don't know anything about them beyond that. Oh, that does make me a bad mother?"
