APHMAU'S POV

Once they got back to Lizzie's base, she hurried off to somewhere else to collect the other 'ingredients', leaving Aphmau to investigate the main area.

There wasn't much there that she hadn't already seen, and she wasn't really expecting to find anything, so it was a surprise when she neared the shimmering willow tree in the center of the cavern and spotted the intricate carvings that decorated the trunk, and the silvery mist that clung to the leaves like fairy dust.

"It's pretty, isn't it?"

Aphmau whirled around to find Willow standing behind her, a wide smile on her face.

"Uh, hi." Aphmau stammered, "I didn't think I'd be seeing you. Lizzie's been kind of cagey about telling me where you were. I assumed that you'd be off on some magical adventure."

"Oh, I am." Willow laughed lightly, "I'm not actually here. This is an astral projection. I needed to talk to Lizzie."

Aphmau nodded, but didn't say anything.

An uncomfortable silence fell over them for a minute or so, before Willow came closer, brushing her hand past the leaves of the tree that shared her name.

"It's an elven tree." Willow explained, as if she had read Aphmau's mind, "It has magical properties."

"Elves?" Aphmau questioned, "They exist?"

"They did. I haven't seen one in a very, very long time. They're very reclusive."

"And yet you have one of their trees?" Aphmau wondered.

"It was a gift from a friend." Willow smiled, before adding, "You knew her too."

"I did? Of course I did." Aphmau muttered, still bewildered by how little she knew of her previous life.

"Her name was Zoey. She helped raise your kids."

Aphmau frowned. The name seemed vaguely familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had heard it before.

She opened her mouth to ask Willow more about Zoey, but before she could they were interrupted by Lizzie, who looked momentarily surprised to see Willow, but it was gone in a flash.

"Hey Will'." Lizzie said, nodding in greeting.

"Hey." Willow responded in kind.

Lizzie glanced between Aphmau and the brunette, before refocusing on Willow.

"Do you want to come back later." She said to Willow, phrasing it like a question even though it clearly wasn't.

Willow simply nodded and smiled once more at Aphmau before vanishing.

"Why was Willow here?" Aphmau asked immediately.

"None of your business." Lizzie replied, brushing her off, and crossing the room to deposit the items on a small table.

"Who was Zoey?" Aphmau continued, not expecting a proper answer from her sort-of sister.

To her surprise, the black-haired girl turned around to study her for a moment, and then actually answered the question.

"She was an elf, a close friend of yours, and a friend of mine after awhile. She practically raised Levin and Malachi while you were trapped in the Irene Dimension, and gave up her immortality to get you and your other friends back."

Aphmau fell silent, unsure of how to respond. Someone had given up their immortality to save her and her friends?

"She must have been a good person- elf." She stuttered.

"The best." Lizzie replied shortly, which also surprised Aphmau.

Lizzie didn't often praise others. Perhaps she was in a good mood, in which case she needed to take advantage of it. She wanted- no, needed- to know about her previous life as Irene. It felt like something was missing from her mind.

"What were Levin and Malachi like?" She pressed, having heard the names from Alina and Lilith before.

"Levin was Lord of Phoenix Drop. He became Lord as soon as he could, because you were still MIA. Loyal to a fault, but childish at times. Malachi used to be a ghost, but he was returned to human form thanks to a tricky piece of magic. He was far more serious, and more grounded."

Aphmau waited for Lizzie to continue, but she didn't.

"Did they get along with their little sisters?" She asked, desperate for any scrap of information.

Lizzie nodded, a slight smile on her face.

"They loved them."

"But they died." Aphmau said, an idea forming in her head.

"Everyone does." Lizzie pointed out.

"They're dead. Just like Alina and Lilith."

"Is this some kind of mental breakdown?"

"No, no, I'm fine." Aphmau assured her hurriedly, "It's just... could we bring them back too?"

Lizzie's eyes widened, and then narrowed as a look of extreme concentration fell over her face.

"Aph, I think we're pushing it with two." Lizzie said slowly and gently.

"But could we?" She insisted.

Lizzie hesitated again.

"It's... theoretically possible." Lizzie admitted, although she sounded unusually unnerved.

"Yes, thank you." Aphmau grinned.

Her children- it felt weird to call them that- could be reunited. Maybe they could fill in some of the missing pieces, but even if they couldn't, it would be heartwarming to see them all together.
