kole stood against some lockers joking around with richie and stan. she wore an oversized grey sweater over some shorts. black, dirty doc martens on her feet.

eddie sat across the hall. sketch book in his lap. he was trying his best to capture her bright eyes. her laugh. the way her eyed squeezed shut when she threw her head back to smile. his hand was fluent in art, but found it stuttering as he tried to draw her.

kole had cut her hair over the weekend. well, actually she let mike cut it. he did a good job.
it was a shaggy bob, and fit her style well.

"whatcha working on?" beverly peered over eddies shoulder. she smiled at the drawing. eddie quickly tucked the book to his chest. he was pretty closeted about his artwork. he didn't want to be poked fun at.

"an assignment for art," eddie murmured. his cheeks washing over red. he waved his hair over his honey colored eyes. avoided the girl with the sunset hair completely.

"what is it? draw the girl you have a massive crush on?" the redhead teased. eddie swallowed hard.

"what? n-no... kole is my partner."

"mhmm i don't doubt that part."

beverly walked over to kole and richie. stan had became bored with the conversation and was now talking to mike. eddie slowly lowered his sketch book. the chain he was gifted a week earlier was between his lips as he concentrated on the girl in front of him. light strokes until he was happy with them. slowly drawing harsher lines.

"eddie spaghetti! stop being a loner and get over 'ere!" richie called out to his best friend. he watched as the younger boy as he rolled his eyes.

"don't call me eddie spaghetti, i hate it when you do that," eddie whined and pulled himself up off the floor. he brushed off his light washed jeans.

"i think it's cute eds," kole commented, making the boys ears burn pink. the blonde ruffled his hair, forcing it out of his eyes.

"o-okay."

"what have you been working on?" kole questioned, pulling the book out of eddies grasp. the boy was fast to protest. yet, kole had already set eyes on some of his sketches.

"kole! you can't see it yet. rules of the assignment," the boy sassed before snatching his book back.

"fine," kole rolled her eyes. her fingers fidgeted with the colorful bracelet on her wrist. the pale pink base stuck out like a sore thumb against her dark attire. she loved it.

"oh! eddie, come to my house this weekend?"

he gazed up to meet koles green eyes. they sparkled as she smiled at him. "uh, if i can sneak past my mom. why?"

"what i can't hang out with you?" kole faked disappointment in her voice and watched the boys eyes sadden.

"what? no! you can," eddie babbled out.

"cool, and its a surprise."

eddies heart thumped against his chest. he was sure kole and richie could hear it. he loved hanging out with kole. he adored everything about her. the fact that she was the complete opposite of the pastel boy was his favorite part about kole.

his mom though, had talked eddies ear off about how kole was a bad influence. how she thought kole was a witch and didn't like that she had a boys name, though kole was short for nikole. eddie would never listen—he was 17 years old.

he stopped taking all the bullshit pills his mom made him take. stopped carrying around his inhaler and fanny pack. started dressing himself.

his mom hated that eddie let kole paint his nails black. but the boy loved his nails. thought it was a nice touch to his look. kole said he needed a little darkness to his light.

he couldnt have agreed more.
