eddie and kole sat on top of kole's roof. kole always sat up there when she needed to think. or get away from reality. she wanted to show eddie the spot since it was special to her.

eddie's arm throbbed, as did the inside of his left ring finger. he had decided he wanted two tattoos. on his wrist he had the words time heals all in small letters on top of the scar he had gotten a few summers prior. the events of the season still haunt his dreams from time to time. kole didn't know about it. he didn't think she would believe him.

kole and eddie got a matching ring finger tattoo. loser. eddie didn't like labels all that much, but he knew what he was. he didn't care anymore. the two had discussed bringing the idea of a matching tattoo up to the rest of the losers club. eddie thought they would all like it.

"thank you, for tonight," eddie murmured, as he scooted closer to the girl. the crisp evening air nipped at the girls skin. kole wouldn't show she was cold though.

"you don't have to thank me."

"tonight was fun— well everyday with you is fun," eddie confessed sheepishly. he scratched the back of his neck.

"really?"

"well yeah. kole you're so fun to be around. im surprised you wanted to be my friend. we were only meant to be partners in class so i didn't think you would talk to me. like why would someone as pretty as you want to hang around a bunch of losers?" eddie found himself rambling too much for his liking. kole nudged his arm lightly with a smile.

"you think i'm pretty?" she teased. eddie looked around the horizon, trying to calm the redness of his cheeks.

"well— i mean, what i meant to say was..." the boy was clearly flustered. "yes."

kole threw her arm around eddie's shoulder. she was trying to tell him not to worry, but her shaking shoulders had a different intention. eddie leaned into koles embrace. he longed for the gently touch. as did kole.

"you're pretty too," kole laughed, as eddie leaned his head onto her shoulder.

"should i be pretty? im a boy," eddie pondered, fidgeting with the hem on his sleeve. greta and her friends would often call him pretty boy. eddie was on the more fragile side of masculine. he liked pastel colors, and putting wildflowers in his hair. though the teasing made him stop. pretty was no long a compliment to him.

"i think pretty boys are just angels in disguise."

"is that why you call me angel?"

"yes— but you're also too good for me eddie. too soft and sweet."

"what's wrong with that?" eddie questioned, laying down with his head in koles lap. kole smiled, playing with the boys hair. the small gesture made eddie blush. it was intimate, like no one else was in the world with them.

"nothing, im just not that."

kole played around with eddies grown out curls. she sighed. she knew that she wasn't meant to be friends with eddie. she was too dark, too harsh. too mean. she didn't want to hurt him by mistake.

"what are you thinking about?" eddie asked, pulling kole out of her thoughts. he gazed up at the girl.

"us, our friendship."

"what about us?" kole smiled. the boy was full of questions.

"i don't want to hurt you eddie. we are complete opposites, ma-maybe your mom is right," kole sounded defeated. she took her hand away from eddies hair. silence grew between the two.

"well, kole i-if you hurt me... i'll be waiting there to forgive you," eddie finally mumbled.

"angel no-"

"i would be lucky to be broken by someone like you," as the words left his mouth, eddie reached up to grab her hand. he placed it back into his hair as he snuggled against kole.

"i-i wont hurt you," kole breathed out, talking more to herself than to eddie.

"okay."
