the losers sat bunched up around a small hospital room. kole laid sleeping lightly on a small bed. everyone seemed to be sleeping except for eddie. he stood leaning up against a wall next to kole's bed.

he watched from afar, admiring all of her features. her hair used to be a blunt shaggy bob, but was now a messy pixie cut. eddie liked it. he liked how hair wasn't hiding her prominent facial features anymore.

kole was artwork that eddie could admire forever. a movie he would rewatch everyday if he had the chance. every little stare or brush of her hand touching his made eddie feel things he had never felt before. he wanted to show the world her inner beauty. he smiled more with her. kole was the moon and eddie the stars. they lit up the night sky and shined together.

eddie frowned lightly as he walked over to the hospital bed. he sat on the mattress while lifting koles arm. he held her hand gently with both of his own. her hands were callused and bruised.

"im sorry i didn't find you soon enough," he whispered, bringing her hand up to his cheek and kissing the back of her palm. "you wouldn't be here if i was faster."

eddie closed his eyes, feeling the skin of koles hand up against his own. a stray tear slowly trickled down his cheek. eddie knew he wasnt the soul purpose of what happened to kole but he couldn't help but think he was. maybe if he had ran faster, or skipped last period of school none of this would have happened.

eddies eyes opened as he felt something. koles thumb was rubbing eddies cheek, unintentionally whipping his tear away.

"kole?" he breathed out, gripping back onto her hand. the ghost of a smile on his lips. "y-you're awake!"

"shhh you're being loud," kole cracked a grin as her words were slurred.

"sorry," eddie laughed, letting go of koles hand so he could ruffle her hair. he couldn't help but notice that kole was staring at him. her green eyes became doe eyed as she smiled.

"what?" he smiled.

"you're pretty angel," she giggled to herself, twisting on of his curls around her petite finger.

"you're high on drugs right now kole, i don't think you know what you're talking about," eddie blushed like the sunset outside the window.

"iii know what i'm saying eds. you're prettty. i like your eyes too, they look like honey. brown eyes were never my favorite until i saw yours," kole was fading in and out of sleep as she babbled. "when i look at you i see sunshine you know?"

"kole you should rest now, okay?" eddie chuckled off the compliments

"once you walked into my life i can't remember what it was like without you," eddie got up off of the bed and started to pull up the blanket on top of kole. "but.."

"but what?" eddie murmured, after retucking in kole.

"we're friends," her eyes were closed now. eddies back was turned to kole as he frowned lightly.

"yeah?"

"friends don't look at friends like that,"

"l-like what?" eddie gulped, twisting back to kole.

"like they way we look at each other."
