Meredith walked into the fire station with Cruz beside her, "roll on the long day of my life." She laughed as the pair walked to the bunk room to place their bags down on their beds.

"morning." Kelly walked past the two, flashing Meredith a smile and patting Cruz on the shoulder as he walked into his office.

"he is awfully happy." Cruz looked over at his friend.

The EMT shrugged as she walked over to Cruz, "maybe he got some loving last night." she shook his shoulders as she smiled at the firefighter. "you need some too." she added on as he gave the female a playful glare.

Both the firefighter and EMT walked into the lounge area, both laughing at what Cruz said. "hey guys." Meredith smiled at the team as she walked over to pour herself a cup of coffee, preparing herself for the shift ahead of her.

"where's Gab-?" Meredith was cut off when the intercom spoke about an accident. "squad three and ambo sixty one. road collision on main and three." it spoke. "let's go, Brett." Meredith called as she ran to the ambulance.

Meredith was caught up by Brett as she smiled over to the blonde, "i'll drive." Sylvie called as Meredith made sure everything they needed was in the back of the ambulance. "we good to go?" Brett asked.

The newest EMT opened the passenger side door, "all good." she put her seatbelt on as she saw squad three was waiting for them. "Kelly, we can roll." Sylvie spoke into the radio which he responded with a cool.

Meredith was looking out the window as she watched the trees and the cars go past their ambulance. "so how was your station before you had to leave?" The blonde looked over to see Sylvie glancing over at her.

"fine." came a short response from Meredith.

"we're here." Sylvie called out as she parked next to the fire engine to see four cars on top of each other. "oh my god." Meredith muttered as she rushed out of the ambulance to grab some bags from the back.

"Meredith! over here." she ran over to the voice of Kelly as he was holding a patient from one of the cars. "hey." she placed her arm around the female that Kelly was helping.

Meredith and Kelly led her to the ambulance and onto the stretcher. "what's your name sweetie?" Meredith smiled down at her as she checked her pulse and her lungs.

"Mollie." the young girl whispered.

Meredith smiled as she cut Mollie's shirt to place some sensors pads on her chest to check how strong her heart was. "can you tell me what happened?" she checked over the rest of her body to see if there was any more injuries.

"ouch!" Meredith looked down to where she was pressing which made Mollie cry out in pain. "i need to cut your trousers, is that okay?" the EMT asked the young girl who nodded.

"it looks like you have a broken leg." she said as she put a splint on the leg. "Brett! we have to go." Meredith called out to her partner who ran over. "we'll take her to med." Sylvie helped Meredith put the stretcher in the back.

Meredith climbed in the back as her partner closed the doors and then they were off to med. "she's crashing!" the EMT called out as she started CPR on Mollie. "we are five minutes out." Sylvie shouted.

Meredith gave the young girl morphine for the pain and she released a breath when the ECG showed that Mollie was showing a normal heartbeat. "she's good." she called out as soon as they reached the hospital.

Brett opened the door as Meredith was on top of the patient. "she has a broken leg, and she crashed but i was able to stabilise her." Meredith told the doctors who were waiting for the patient. The female got off Mollie as she was rolled into a room when she was transferred onto one of their beds.

"coffee?" Meredith nodded when her and Sylvie put the stretcher back into the ambulance. "i need one." her friend laughed as Meredith drove from the hospital to a local coffee shop that was near the fire station.

Meredith smiled at a joke that Sylvie told her as they sipped on their coffee before Meredith drove back to the fire station. "you got coffee without us." Kelly pouted as Meredith got out of the ambulance. "we were craving it." she patted his chest as she walked away from him.

"he's a child." she looked over at Sylvie as they sat down on the chairs. "when isn't he?" the blonde female laughed as they opened up their newspapers. "who's cooking dinner tonight?" Matt walked in with Kelly as they sat down between Meredith.

Meredith smiled over at the lieutenant and then over at Matt, "it is Kelly's turn." Gaby sat next to Sylvie as she placed her cup of coffee down in front of her.

"food poisoning!" Cruz laughed.

Kelly hit Meredith over the head when she laughed at Cruz's joke on his cooking skills. "i'm a good cook!" he defended himself as he wanted to impress the new EMT.

"i'm sure you are!" Meredith nodded as she turned herself in the chair to face Kelly. "i'm making curry tonight." the lieutenant told everyone who nodded.

Meredith stood up when she walked past Kelly, she rubbed his shoulder then went into the fridge to grab an apple. "i'm starved." she bit into the apple when she sat next to Kelly and Matt again.

"what happened with the car wreck?" Meredith asked Kelly who was the commanding officer in charge. "we had one death, the victim died in the accident." the lieutenant looked over when Meredith continued to eat her apple.

Meredith stopped eating, "oh my." she whispered as she bit her lip when Kelly told her that there was a death. "that's sad." Gaby glanced over at the three who were there on scene.

"there wasn't anything we could of done." Kelly placed his hand on her thigh and rubbed it out of friendship and out of comfort.

Meredith felt lost when she heard that death overpowered life.
