"what? you can't close us!" Meredith looked up from her newspaper to see her chief, arguing with someone from head office. "what's going on?" the EMT asked her friend, Oscar, who just shrugged.
Their chief, William, came in the lounge area where all his firefighters were and his two paramedics. "everyone listen up!" he called out, and everyone dropped what they were doing to listen.
"head is closing the station." he let out with a sad expression on his tanned face.
Meredith looked around to see the expression on everyone's face. "they can't do that!" she stood up, and her newspaper fell from her lap. "they can Mer." William muttered as he excused himself and headed to his office.
"this is bizarre!" A firefighter called out as Meredith nodded, this was her home... she had been here for three years and she made the best memories here with her firehouse family.
"are we out of a job now?" Oscar stood beside Meredith who shrugged. "i couldn't tell you, O." she muttered as everyone hesitantly went back to what they were doing beforehand.
Five minutes later, William entered the lounge again with a piece of paper. "some of you were lucky to be transferred to other houses, and the rest." he started. "have to find another job?" Oscar finished his boss who nodded.
"Wright." Meredith looked up from her newspapers again when her last name was called. "you are going to 51." he told her where her new post was. "lucky! they have hot firefighters there." her partner, Hannah, smirked.
Meredith scoffed at Hannah's behaviour but she knew she would be going to 51 the next day and she had to pack. "hey, you are going to 72?" Meredith caught up to Oscar, who nodded.
"at least we have jobs." he shrugged as he held the door open for his friend. "i guess." she muttered as she went over to her bunk that was in the corner. "it's sad... i wonder why we have to close." Meredith looked up from her box to shrug at Oscar.
Four hours later, all the firefighters shifts were over and now they were saying their last goodbyes. "we can still meet up! nothing is stopping us drinking on a sunday." Hannah smiled as everyone went around to give each other a hug.
Meredith carried her box to her car but she couldn't keep her eyes off the building that gave her a family and a life. "i'll miss you." she whispered as she got into her car before driving back to her apartment, and that was to drink herself away in the emotions of leaving her firehouse.
The next day, Meredith dressed herself in her EMT uniform but it still said 81 on it but she didn't have a top for 51 yet and they had to still give her one. "good luck, M." she spoke to herself as she saw herself in the mirror.
Meredith drove to her new firehouse and parked a little way down from the house but she didn't mind the walk. The paramedic grabbed the box before locking the car and starting her short journey to the entrance.
"can i help you?" Meredith turned around to see a girl, hand in hand with a male. "i'm starting here today." she studied them, the male wore a white shirt... Captain.
"Meredith?" the girl asked as Meredith nodded. "I'm Gabby, a firefighter, and this is my husband Matt." Gabby introduced themselves to Meredith who smiled.
Meredith was led inside by the couple who showed her where to put her box, "this is your bunk." Matt pointed to a single bed in the middle of two. "cosy." she laughed as she placed the box down before Matt showed her his office and then thought it would be best to introduce her to everyone.
"can i have your attention." Matt called out which made everyone place their attention onto the captain and a girl beside him. "this is our new EMT, Meredith Wright." Matt smiled at Meredith then he sat down next to Gabby while everyone stood up to introduce themselves.
Meredith was first spoken to by a blonde girl, "I'm Sylvie." she hugged Meredith to the point where she couldn't breath. "Brett let her go! she can't breath." A man pulled her away from Meredith.
"I'm Cruz." the man who pulled Sylvie away from her, shook her hand. "nice to meet you." and the list went on and names kept coming in. "you haven't met our Chief, his name is Boden and the other lieutenant." Cruz offered Meredith a seat who accepted.
Meredith was in the midst of a conversation with Cruz and Sylvie when a cough broke them apart. "Wallace." Meredith stood up to hug the man in front of her. "it's been too long, M." he laughed as he hugged her back.
"this is Lieutenant Severide." Wallace pulled back to show her who he was speaking about. "it's nice to meet you, Lieutenant." Meredith smiled as she shook his hand. "you too." he cut his smile short before walking over to Matt and sitting next to him.
"he's tired." Wallace placed a hand on Meredith's shoulder. "isn't everyone?" Cruz laughed as he straightened out his newspapers. "come." Wallace led Meredith to the kitchen area and he poured her a cup of coffee.
"how's the parents?" he asked.
"well thank you. How is Donna?" she asked and he responded with a good.
"i wonder how she knows him." Kelly was staring at the girl, trying to figure her out. "she seems nice." Matt shrugged as he sipped on his coffee, and he saw how deeply Kelly was staring at her.
Matt flicked his shoulder, "watch your staring buddy." he laughed as Kelly waved him off. "i'm fine." he smirked as he lent back to rest his head on his hands.
Meredith was called over by Gabby, and the conversation was to get to know her. "i was with 81 but head office shut us down." Meredith told the three who was listening in.
The conversation and the questions kept coming but Meredith didn't mind.
i might like it here.
