Here you go ThePinkEclipse one baby scenario! I'm not sure if this is how you wanted it done but I think it came out good. Sorry it's so late.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay?" Alto asked.

"I'll be fine, I promise." Ben replied.

Alto sighed. "Sorry, I can't help but worry. I wish they'd let me come along, you know?"

"Yeah, I know. But I've dealt with worse, so don't worry too much."

"I'll try my best."

Ben turned at the sound of his name being called before returning to the phone. "Hey, time's almost up babe."

"Okay, love you. Stay safe."

"I love you too and I will."

Ben hung up. His heart ached to go back home, but he had a mission and he intended to finish it. Ben walked over to his mission partner, Bethany, who'd been talking to her wife.

"Ready?" He asked, smirking as he overheard the flurry of 'I love you's' and 'Stay safe's'.

She glared at him before telling her wife she had to go, giving a final 'I love you' and 'Goodbye'.

"It's rude to interrupt a call, you know."

"You interrupted mine, I thought I'd return the favor."

Beth snorted.

"So, where are we going?" Ben asked, changing the subject.

"Abandoned piece of property, north of here, think it used to be a farm or something. People who let their animals graze there have been reporting that their livestock have been mutating. It's worth checking out."

"I see, you think if we find out whatever's causing it we'll mutate too?" Ben joked.

Beth rolled her eyes. "I don't think it works on humans or else the farmers would be affected."

"We don't know that for sure, now do we?"

She smiled. "I guess, but I don't think it'll hurt us, at least not too bad."

"Well, only the future knows." Ben checked the time. "We should get going before it gets dark."

"Right, I got us a rental van just in case."

The pair hopped in, driving in silence toward the plagued farm. They pulled up, tense and quiet.

"Well, ladies first."

Beth punched Ben. "Shut up, shithead."

Ben laughed. He jumped the fence, groaning in disgust when he landed in a marshy area. Beth cackled at him and, taking care not to land where he did, followed Ben's lead. She gave him a hand and he pulled himself out of the muddy hole.

"Man..." Ben sighed. "I liked these shoes."

"Quit being a baby, we've got a job to do." Beth replied. "I say you take the west end and I'll take the east, we'll work our way towards each other and then go through the north end together. Radio me if you find anything."

"Got it."

The two went their separate ways. Three hours of digging, scrounging, and re-burying brought nothing.

"Ben, I'm done searching my half of the area."

"Ditto. See you in the center."

The two met in the front yard of the mansion-esqe house that stood on the property. It loomed over them, its shadow seeming to eat up the moonlight that had been guiding their path up until then.
