Gears drummed his fingers along his desk, begging the foundations' computerized database to hurry up so he could finish this stupid report and get home. Worry itched in his mind, making his thoughts bounce to and fro, from here to home. Gears bit the inside of his cheeks. His little, well he wasn't exactly sure what Julian was, had been acting very strange this morning. Julian, or as Gears nicknamed him, Iceberg, wasn't in bed when Gears woke up and was unusually adverse to the other's touch. He sighed, thinking back on the stormy night he discovered him.
Poor Julian was soaked, ill, and worst of all completely naked, covered in wounds and dirty. On a whim he'd stopped by a Denny's and found Julian cowering in the alley nearby. It took a lot of convincing and the promise of a hot meal and bath to get him out of there. Gears was stunned by the strange cat ears and long, matted, white tail coming off of him. Nevertheless, he brushed off his surprise, took Julian home, and spent the last two years nursing him to health and taking care of him.
Julian was amazingly helpful. He often not only took care of the house while Gears was away, but he also helped organize reports and write out documents. Of course, he'd given Gears a dose of affection that he never knew he needed and subsequently they began a relationship. Gears' jaw hardened, the stupid document was still loading, shitty wifi. He longed for one of those velvety ears or that silky soft and wondrously fluffy tail to be in his hands right now as Julian's purrs buzzed through his chest.
Whilst the damned document still staggered on screen, Gears took the opportunity to look up what Julian had recalled from the lab once more and tried to look up what he actually was. For what Gears assumed was the 1400th time, nothing. The best he'd gotten for Julie's condition was the term "Neko", which is anime, and not reality so he ignored it. For the lab, nothing. Gears grumbled, saw the document was still loading and decided to call Julian. His heart rate shot through the roof, Julie wasn't picking up. He left a voicemail all but begging the other to call him back asap. As soon as he hung up, by some miracle, the document opened. Gears' digits sprinted over the keys, finished, and sent the document on to its new home. He sighed, finally. Gears collected his things and walked as fast as he could to the site's entrance.
"Hey Gears!" Said Roth behind him.
Gears jumped and turned. "Oh, Roth, you gave me a heart attack. What do you need?"
She smiled the best she could with a cat's muzzle. "Just wanted to say hi." Her brow suddenly furrowed and she sniffed the air. "You got a cat at home?" She asked.
Gears paused for a second. "Yes, why?"
"You just smell like pheromones. Like, really bad, you should probably neuter it soon." She said, shaking her head.
"Noted. If that's all you have to say, I'll be taking my leave."
"See ya!"
Gears turned again, striding down the hall to leave. Thankfully, no one else bothered to stop him. His hands fiddled with his keys, jabbing them into the ignition and making the car roar to life. Gears pealed out of the parking lot and sped home, praying something bad hadn't happened.
Gears stood before his apartment door, once again, shaking hands fumbled with the keys. He jiggled the handle and opened the door, "Ice! I'm home! I brought your favorite food!"
Silence. That nasty knot of worry only grew within Charles as he walked inside and set the food down. The apartment was quiet in the worst way. He called to Julian again with no reply. Charles chewed the inside of his cheek and went to inspect the bedroom the shared. Nothing was out of place, looking exactly as it had this morn-
