Headcanons #3 Iceberg (2)

(Trigger warning for mentions of abuse, dysphoria, talking about genitals, and mental illness)

Iceberg again since I wanted to do a headcanon I had for him that wasn't requested!

Ice is genderfluid and intersex!

(Feel free to skip the lesson if you know what those terms mean)

If you don't know, genderfluid means one's gender changes from time to time, such as from day to day, between all identities. For example, one day a genderfluid person may feel like a girl, the next they may feel like a guy, and the next they may feel like they have no gender.

Intersex means that one has sex characteristics such as genitals, sex hormones, gonads, and or chromosomes that don't fit into strictly male or female categories. For example someone with ambiguous genitals or both XX and XY chromosomes in their body count as intersex.

I think Ice was born with ambiguous genitals but, unlike other parents, his parents opted to not surgically 'correct' him as they wanted him to make that choice for himself (If he ever got a surgery) despite objection from their doctors. After Ice was "adopted" (I'll explain that in another headcanon) his new 'parents' put a lot of pressure on him to get the surgery, which he refused.

As a result, his adoptive family shunned him for it and on multiple occasions attempted to trick him into getting the surgery (All of which failed thankfully). This caused a lot of anxiety and body image issues as he grew up and quite a bit of internalized hatred towards himself, though he never had much dysphoria.

I'm not sure if people would be okay with detail, so I'll paraphrase and say that Ice has dude and lady bits. I don't think Gears would mind this at all, he likes Iceberg's body exactly how it is.

Also as a result of being intersex, Ice is really androgynous looking (meaning he neither looks male or female) which, funnily, caused a few fights between co-workers when he first joined the Foundation as people saw his gender differently.

Speaking of gender, Ice began to figure out his all the way back in 6th grade, when he first joined the cheerleading team at his school.

Ice knew that it was weird to have a lot of female and male friends and not stick to gendered groups like most of the other kids but things got even weirder when he discovered he really liked (or at least didn't mind) being identified as a girl.

For a while, he thought he was a trans girl but realized that the way he identifies changed over time. Of course, since this was the 80s-90s, and trans/enby rep was shit, he didn't know that such identification is okay and instead played it safe as an effeminate guy.

Of course, Ice still presented as a girl form time to time during highschool, using the fact that his school had only female uniforms for cheerleading and (Lying) that most competitions only allowed all girl cheerleading groups as an excuse to do so.

During highschool, he began to grow more confident in his gender identity and with his body as he felt desired by guys for being androgynous/ feminine. He lost much of that confidence he gained in his late teens due to an extremely manipulative ex and obgyn , both of whom he's escaped.

Rights and Glass helped him regain a lot of confidence towards his body, presenting however he wants, and wearing his gender identity loud and proud.
