Chapter Thirty Four

Lilith's POV

"Do you ever believe the concept of taking a fucking rest?" Sharky questioned in a joking manner as me, him, and Hurk were walking out of the Elk Jaw Lodge after we took it back from the cult. "You got tortured by Jacob, and then like a day later you're right back at it."

I shrugged my shoulders. "Well, if I take more of a rest that lasts more than a day, the cult would find a way to bounce back and cause more destruction and chaos. I mean, I made Joseph shaking in his boots after I took out two out of his three siblings, I'm so close," I explained. The three of us climbed into my car and I asked, "So what should we do next? 'Cause I was just thinking of another round of taking back outposts and doing Preppers to get us some money."

"Well, I need a little help with somethin' dudes," Hurk said.

"What do you need help with, cuz?" Sharky questioned.

"Between when Lily got kidnapped to now, I managed to lose Nancy and I need to get her back or my dad is going to kill me," Hurk explained.

A confused look came over my face as I looked at Hurk through the rearview mirror. "Nancy?" I questioned.

"It's what my dad is calling his campaign truck," Hurk answered. "I lost it while trying to get you back to us."

My confused look was still there when I started the car and went on the drive. "How? Please don't tell me you lost it to the fucking Peggies," I said. Hurk didn't answer. "For fuck sakes Hurk, how and why?" I questioned.

"He figured that if it was going to take long – like you not managing to escape or whatever – he would join the cult and try to take you out of the prison Jacob set you in himself," Sharky explained. "Look, I love you and all shorty, but not to the point of me aligning with the Peggies even for the short term."

"So right now, the Peggies have a hold of the truck and we're going to get it back," Hurk said.

I was left speechless while Hurk was directing me to the last location of the truck. "You...you would do that for me, Hurk?"

"Do what? Join the cult in hopes of getting you back to our side? Fuck yeah, Lily. If you ended up marrying Joseph, I would've done something back then to get you back," Hurk explained.

"Cause you see, Shorty, you have friends that love you and such, but we're the only ones that will go above and beyond and do some really stupid stuff to help you out as best as we can," Sharky explained.

John's POV

Who knew that the feeling of being lonely can be so heartbreaking?

Yeah sure, I still technically have Abigail in my life that I can talk to whenever she comes down here to check up on my wellbeing. However considering she's mostly busy with Lily in trying to take Joseph's creation down; my brother-in-law can't know of my existence and he doesn't want my step-niece and nephew to be around me (and for good reason which I understand; if I was in his shoes I would do the same thing), I'm down here by myself a good portion of the time. That can be taxing on someone who spent most of their life feeling alone because of his fucked up life.

So what did I do to try and cope with my feelings?

By writing them down in a couple of notebooks that Abigail gave me in which I hope that it's my eyes and my eyes only that see them. Considering that she was all that Abigail could talk about the last time she was here, the topic I decided to write about today was Lilith.

Lilith,

You may be a stubborn bitch.

You may be someone who doesn't understand what she's supposed to do in her life even though you get told of such every time.

You may be someone who has more sins that I've seen on someone in all of my time spent as The Baptist for the Project at Eden's Gate.

However, there was one thing that I've noticed about you that has stuck with me ever since. I've noticed that you would use your stubbornness for the benefit of others. I'd noticed that when you didn't go through your Cleansing and helped everyone else break free from theirs and ruined their chance at that time to confess and possibly atone for their sins.

If I have to be honest, that made my blood boil and I wanted to kill you the first chance that I got; however, Joseph was the one who stopped me from pursuing the sin of Wrath because he told me God has a plan for you and we shouldn't deviate from that plan. There were at times that I wished that wasn't the case cause I would love nothing more than to bury your dead body six feet underground.

There is one thing I learned about you; through our interactions with each other even if it were only brief ones.

You seem to be an actual good fit for my brother. From what I've seen from him himself whenever you're brought up, you make him a completely different person. A person that can make someone want to be around him for more than a few minutes. You make him happy, Lilith.

I just wished you would listen; I know you want to.
