The Nightwalker. -Complete-

Chapter 5.

School ended and Lenari and Darien say goodbye to the two boys. They step into the car. His mother starts driving and soon they reach the house.

Lenari runs out of the car and inside. Darien walks to the front door slowly. "Lenari?" He shouts through the house. His mother puts a hand on his shoulder. "Leave her for now." She says.

They walk into the living room and his dad is watching TV. He looks away from the device and smiles at Darien. "How was school?" He asks.

Darien starts smiling. "Amazing dad," He sits down on the couch next to his father. "William and Josh like her and she likes them back!" He says.

Darien's dad looks at his mom. "You hear that? Lenari likes humans." He says with a smile. "That is kind of ironic." She says back.

"Why?" Darien asks. His father shakes his head a little. "Not now, Darien." He stands up and walks to his office. "I'll tell you later." He says before closing the door.

Darien looks at his mother hopefully, but she just shakes her head. "As your dad said, another time." She gives him a kiss on top of his head before walking away.

"Mom." He says before she fully disappears in the hall. "Tell me one thing. Why does she get so angry when we call her Len?" His mother sighs, but answers anyway.

"Because her companion always called her that." His mother walks away and Darien just sits there.

There you have it again. That companion. Darien needed to find out who it was. Was it another vampire? Does it have anything to do with the whole Nightwalker thing?

Darien shakes his head before switching the channel of the TV and watching some programma.

Darien's mom walks into the office through the door in the hall. "Graig?" She asks. He looks up from his work. "What is it, darling?"

"It's Darien. He keeps asking about Lenari." Graig sighs. "We can't tell him, Marianne. He doesn't need to know anything about the things she did." He says.

Marianne sits down on the desk. "He is going to find out some day." She says. "He is happy that he has someone in the house when we are gone, don't ruin that for him." Graig tells his wife.

There is a knock on the door. "Come in." Graig shouts. The door opens and Lenari walks in. Her fangs are extended and her right eye is red. "I'm...Hungry." She says before dropping down on the floor.

Marianne runs outside. Graig walks to the vampire. "Lenari?" He asks. She looks up a little. She is breathing heavy and her finger dig holes in the carpet on the floor.

"Lenari, keep yourself together." He says. She looks at the carpet. She is obviously struggling to not throw herself on the man.

The groans once before digging her fangs in the carpet. "Marianne!" Graig shouts. "Get a chicken!"

Marianne runs in with a chicken and puts it down on the ground. Lenari immediatly senses it's presence and throws herself on the animal.

Graig puts his hands in front of his wife's eyes. She turns around in his arms and burries her face in his chest.

The sound of Lenari moaning and the chicken's last panicked screaches still make her sick. She closes her eyes and hugs her husband.

He keeps watching the vampire eat. He can't look away. Finally the chicken stops breathing and Lenari pushes the thing away.

"I'm sorry." She says as she stands up. "I kept it in all day, but it just became too much." She adds. "I understand, Lenari." Graig says.

"And it was either the chicken-"

"Or my son." He says, finsihing Lenari's sentence.

"Exactly." She says. "I don't think it is a good idea to let me return to the school." Graig nods. "You can stay home tomorrow." He says.

She nods. "It's just... I am not used to living together with humans yet. My whole life I only killed them. I never really talked to them."

Graig nods. "Maybe it is the best if you go upstairs now. Take the chicken with you." She does and when the door closes Marianne gets away from her husband.

"I am going to lay down for a few minutes." She says while walking away. Graig looks at the two wholes in his carpet and the red stain of the chicken's blood.

He sighs. Darien can never find out who she is. He will be terrified of her when he does. Graig stands up and walks into the living room.

He sits down next to his son and looks some TV with him.
