After you told Sam what happened, you hardly mentioned Peter again. You'd pass him in the hallway and smile, but never really talk. Maybe a word or two in Mr. Kestner's class, or you'd turn and ask a question.
Your mom nor dad ever really mentioned Peter either. Occasionally, he'd come over and work with Tony. Other than that, you didn't see him.
Near the beginning it had been hard; you'd try to ask him something or go to talk to him before remembering. He had been so much more upset with you than the other way around.
You wished you could say it was easy. But it was hard to not talk to him or hang out with him.
It had been months since the breakup. It was finally April and it was getting warm.
The trip was fast approaching. It was at the beginning of June and there was only a month and a half to go.
You were equally excited and nervous. You couldn't believe you were still allowed to fly commercially.
During lunch, Sam approached your table and sat down.
"You alright?" she asked as she pulled out her sandwich.
"Just peachy. But I am still worried about this trip."
"Girl, you're going to have so much fun you won't even notice him there."
You rolled your eyes, smiling. "Not true. He'll probably be talking to MJ."
"I don't think he likes her like that, y/n. And if he does, then so what? Let him move on and see what he's missing without you."
"Not entirely helping."
She shook her head. "You'll be fine. We'll explore everything by ourselves and we won't have to worry about him."
You smiled. "Okay, fine. I want to try a bunch of food while we're there, though. Can we please—"
"Yes."
You laughed and finished your lunch.
The rest of the day was pretty normal and you went home like usual.
You hadn't thought about Peter almost the entire rest of the day. Maybe things could be okay.
***
It was approaching the end of May and you had slowly become less obsessed with Peter. Feelings were fading, you were worrying less.
It was awesome.
You were having fun with Sam when she wasn't with Simon, spending time with your dad, and finding new interests. It was really freeing.
The trip was in one week, so you decided to go to the mall with Sam to get some clothes for warmer weather.
You needed something nice for the opera you were going to see during the trip. You had gotten a few more clothes since the move, but you still didn't have anything super dressy.
Sam came out of the dressing room wearing a light pink dress. It was loose at the waist and flowed out.
You had only stared for a few seconds before deciding, "I love it. You definitely need to get it."
