Chapter 5

Just Friends

Maggie

This is perfect. I'm finally going with my new career. I've found my inspiration and got my story going in my head. As fast as my fingers will go I'm writing away trying to not lose my momentum. The story, the characters filling my head faster than I can get my thoughts to the computer. The waitress comes over and refills my drink and lays a piece of paper next to my hand. I frown looking down at it then back up at her. I'm confused, I didn't ask for a phone number.

"The WiFi code you asked for." She reminds me. She looks really familiar. Where do I know her from?

"Oh! Oh yeah. Thank you. Um... what's the phone number for? Do I have to dial out or something?" I don't understand how business lines work. Is there a special phone code or something?

"Jeremy said you need to FaceTime that number before you do anything else. He said it will make his life easier if you could just take a minute and call then you can get back to work with no more interruptions. Your food should be about ready. I'll go check on it." She says and leaves me looking at the scrap of paper.

What? Who's Jeremy?

I shrug and do as I've been asked and dial the number. I just want an internet connection I didn't think it was this big of a deal. It doesn't take long for it to connect. "I'm headed back you asshole, so don't you fucking scare her off! I swear to God, I'll kick your ass if you mess this up for me!"

"Um... hi, I was just wanting to use the WiFi here. I think she gave me the wrong number." I look at the paper then the numbers I dialed. Nope, I didn't mess that up. Well shoot! Who is this, I can't see his face. The only thing I can see is a ceiling.

Suddenly there's a slur of curse words and the person fumbles with their phone. I briefly get a glance of a a pile of clothes, books and messed up bed.

Whoa! Were those boxers?

When he finally holds it up where I can see him, I recognized him. I know that handsome rugged face. I studied it for what felt like hours that night I was here while he worked. I remember the way he protected me from Parker before I snuck out the next morning.

Shit! Shit! What do I do?

I can tell he's just as surprised to see me. His eyes widen and his mouth drops open. Shit! I don't have any makeup on and I must look a complete disaster. Immediately I run my hand over my hair, trying to calm down my crazy blonde ringlets that I didn't straighten this morning. He looks really flustered too, like he was in a hurry but so sexy. With the messed up hair rough stubble covering his face and sexy blue eyes, he's not wearing a shirt.

Oh no! Did I interrupted him with a girl? I bet I did. Crap, that's so not a good thing to catch on FaceTime.

"Maggie? How did you...?" He is just as confused as I am. He sits down on the bed and stops whatever he had been doing and just looked at me. "Hi." A slow sexy grin comes over his face.

"Hi." I smile back as a long comfortable silence falls between us. "Oh, I'm so sorry for interrupting you. I wanted the WiFi code so I could work, she gave me your number and said to call you first. I guess I need your permission? I didn't mean to... I'm so sorry she called you it's really not that urgent to break up your date." I feel horrible for interrupting that. God that poor girl he's with probably is furious with him for answering.

"Don't hang up! I'm not on a date! Maggie don't hang up, please. It's fine I was just at the beach to surf a little. I'm alone see." He spins the phone around the room so I can see he's telling the truth. "I'm on my way back though. Don't go anywhere okay? I'm coming just stay there, please." He says with a nervous smile on his face. I bite down on my lip and look around. I see the waitress and a guy sitting across the room watching me. He's got the biggest grin on his face. What the hell? Did he do this on purpose? "Maggie? Please stay okay? I'm on my way."
