Chapter 14

Maggie

Not ever having the opportunity to lay in bed and watch a man sleep, I'm taking full advantage of it this morning. I woke up pinned to Trent's body as if we were quite literally attached. His leg was flung over mine, his heavy arm rested around my waist and when I tried to move, he only tightened his hold on me. His face was buried in my neck and his warm breath tickling my skin.

As realization hit me of our position, of the idea this beautifully strong man was in my bed my heartbeat quickened. Goosebumps rose over my skin and heat soared into my core. It was possessive the way he held me. Powerful, strong and needy. He was holding me like he's afraid I'll leave. I wanted to see him, watch him even briefly just to see his face without him knowing. To have that privilege, that private intimate moment that's just mine. So I simply shifted slowly and turned my head to take in his face.

Strong masculine features, under dark brows, eyes softly closed with lashes longer than a man has a right to have, his nose just a little crooked as if he has broken it at least once, and lips in a grim line as if he doesn't like his dream. There's a slight dimple in his chin and his jaw is clenched like he's grinding his teeth.

It's a formidable face, one that can be soft and dreamy just as easily as it can turn hard and mean. I've seen both and find both fascinating. Seeing his eyes change from easy humor with small lines creasing the corners of his eyes to icy cold glaciers of a light blue that can freeze out the devil. I've watched his smile morph from a seductive smirk into a firm line of anger. It's mesmerizing to see that difference between the man's personality.

A man that is slipping through that crack he made around the barrier of my heart. The jolt of that knowledge scares me a little. I was hurt badly by Parker, how did Trent manage to get through my guard? Worry hit me, a trepidation of what could happen, concern for what will happen to my heart if it breaks again.

He could bring me to my knees

"It's a little creepy that you're watching me sleep, sweetheart." Trent's voice is husky still filled with sleep. His hand rubs along my ribs without the slightest hint of moving out of our position.

"I like your face." Running my finger down his temple over strong cheekbones and a rough tight jaw across to soft smooth lips. Those lips pucker and kiss my fingers. Unnerving me and causing that coil in my belly to tighten."Did you know you grind your teeth?"

He takes a deep breath, stretches. Thinking he was getting up I shift to move but Trent only reaches for me and pulls me flush to his chest. Laying side by side wrapped around each other, his lips brush lightly, almost reverently over my forehead. One kiss after another, not aiming for more but pressing against my skin as if this is the most normal thing to do. As if we've woken together this way many times before. His hand strokes my hair back away from my face before he snuggles closer to my body.

"I do that when I've got a lot on my mind. What's your plan today?" He didn't make any motion to move or get up any time soon. His eyes remained close while his hand kept a gentle touch on my skin, rubbing circles on my neck.

"Actually, I think..." I stopped mid sentence hearing the knock on the front door. "I should get that."

As I start to move and Trent groans beseeching me not to move. He reaches out for me to pull me back into bed as I slip out from between the sheets. Laughing because this is so out of my norm, I skirt away from his hands and hurry out of the room. Working my way to the door, I hear Trent call out to ignore the knock and come back to bed. I'm giggling still as I open the door.
