Chapter 20
Wanted Dead or AliveTrent
The recent advertising and marketing of local businesses, the twenty and thirty something's that are the up and coming corporate executives and the local families that want a night out, is working out quite well. We've been packed every weekend for a month, happy hour five nights a week and longer on weekends, even lunches and early dinners for families are busier. I'll make this bar into a thriving success before our second anniversary this fall.
Zoe is spending the night with her grandparents. I made arrangements for them to come visit and when Maggie offered her place on the beach for them to stay, it made for a perfect night with my girl. It gives them somewhere to stay at no charge, a full refrigerator for them and a safe place to enjoy Zoe. They were thrilled and jumped on the idea. It works well that we have them close by too. I've come to think Maggie's place is a good idea to keep after I convince her to stick with me.
I'm still working on that idea with her
Lily has come down for the weekend too, which wasn't exactly what I had in mind for Maggie but she needs to have her girl time. I've got my friends around me everyday, we talk, laugh, work constantly. Maggie has me here, and Lily in San Francisco. I think she wishes for a friend here, but Maggie is the kind of person that has one or two close friends and not a whole room full of them. That's okay, I know some people aren't big on groups. That's Maggie but I think she could really use a friend, Lily really, closer to us. I'll have to think about that a bit more.
I'm busy running food, expediting for the kitchen, changing out kegs, washing dishes. It's all hands on deck for nights like tonight. Maggie and Lily are set in one of the few booth we have on the second floor bar and seem to be enjoying themselves. I'm able to stop by in between running food out and bussing tables to get a kiss or just check on them. Of course, between Harper, Cole and Frankie, we're all keeping close tabs on them and making sure Adrienne doesn't pop in again.
My staff are good about monitoring situations. We watch for trouble, eye on caution and keep our patrons happy. Taking a tub of dishes to the back, I'm getting a tray of glasses into the washer as I hear cheering out front in the bar. I know what's happening. The guys are doing a bar show again. As soon as I empty my tub and push in the grate, pulling down the door and pushing the start button, I head back out. Lily and Maggie are clapping and smiling along with everyone else. I hear a loud wolf whistle and Harper is motioning for me to join them.
I hate doing this. We always end up breaking an expensive bottle of something in the process, but I jump up on the bar and join my friends. The music gets turned up and Mitch passes me a couple bottles to work with. Smirking over to Harper and Cole, I give them a nod and we start. Flipping bottles into the air, spinning them before a long pour. Under legs, around backs, high tosses, low passes. By the time the song ends, the tip jar on the bar is full and the front of the bar we are standing on is full of women waving bills to us.
I swear you'd think we're strippers or something.
Jumping down while Cole and Harper have their fun, I make my way over to my girl. Lily is standing on the seat, waving her bills for the guys, her whistles get Cole's attention. Grinning, he raises a finger, telling her just a moment and he jumps down as well, leaving Harper to deal with the single women in desperate need of attention. It doesn't take long before Dean and Jeremy have joined him to help with the waiting orders.
"Wow! You guys should do that every night." Lily exclaims as I help her down to sit again. "That was awesome!"
"You guys are talented." Maggie smiles. I can see she's a bit uncomfortable with the attention I got from that little show.
