Chapter 13

The Cock block

Frankie

Tonight was busy, crazy busy. Most nights are lately. It was the kind of night where you hustle for the entire shift, make some decent to better than average tips and block a lot of jerks from getting too handsy. That's the hardest part sometimes. You want a good tip, Trent wants the best customer service, but you don't want to be touched. I can fend off my share of drunk guys and dodge the creeps who want to sample the goods, but tonight I was relying a lot on my brother. More than I like to admit. I had my ass pinched five times, got pulled into three laps and Mitch pushed off each one by escorting the guy to the door. Big brother was on duty.

It was a good thing... I guess

The full moon has brought out every horny man and woman aching to get laid. All of us have been hit on tonight it seems. With Trent MIA, Cole and Dean have been running the second floor bar, while Jeremy and Mitch have manned the dining room and kitchen with Harper and two other bartenders handling drinks. And a full staff of servers to boot. Trent would have loved it. The sound of laughing and glasses clinking together from the second floor bar, the smell of spices that drifted out from the kitchen as food is prepared and sent to the tables in the dining room, and a fairly happy clientele that walked out the door. His business idea from a year ago has turned into a successful reality. I know his parents would be so proud of what we have accomplished here. They were alway proud of us.

Mary and David Cavanuagh were good people. They were the parents some of us never had to look up to. Mitch and I, Jeremy, Dean, even Cole to a point, needed their kind of guidance. The guys were friends from school, our parents weren't ideal. Jeremy's parents were gone most of the time, he had been on his own for years before anyone realized it. Mitch and I dealt with a lousy home but they were still there. Dean and Cole had it better. They had parents that cared, but just were dirt poor. The Cavanuagh's stepped in for all of us. They encouraged us, gave us jobs, an ear when we needed it, food before and after shifts, sometimes warm beds when it got too bad at home and love. They loved all of us. I always envied Harper and Trent for that alone.

When they died, it was hard on all of us and we each mourned in our own way. Harper had the guys to lean on when Trent went into seclusion. He had support, they all did. I was the only female, a teenager, in a house full of guys at the time. I was alone. So I went into myself and hid. I wasn't comfortable talking to any of the guys about what I was feeling or going through, it just felt.... Weird. I don't think I ever got back to who I was before. I'm not sure I ever will. It's probably a good thing, I never really liked who I was before anyway. Too shy, too reserved, too easy to ignore.

Maybe I haven't changed as much as I thought.

Tonight, I don't want to think about the past... or the future. I'm beat and ready for a hot bath, a glass of wine and bed. I smell like stale beer and fried food, not a sexy combination if you ask me. The dining room is finally closed and my tables are gone, reset and ready for tomorrow. Sitting up at the second floor bar the last few customers are finishing their drinks at the bar while I sit in the far booth rubbing my tired feet, while waiting for Mitch so we can go home. Unlike Trent, the rest of us have to leave the building to get home.

Mitch and I share a place with Cole and Dean. It's a nice five bedroom house. Not huge, not small. We have a yard and tend to spend more off nights there BBQing for any that come over, just like we used to as kids. We take turns with the chores. For the most part the guys are good about cleaning up after themselves. Only every so often do they guilt me into cooking or cleaning. I'm not a sucker, I'm not a pushover. I am however a bit soft when I know they've had a longer day than I have.
