THE NIGHT WAS STILL YOUNG OR AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT JOSHUA BELIEVED. He and Embry walked down the road towards Nicole's house. Josh had his hands in his sweater pockets as he listened to Embry go on.
"I feel like I'm going to puke. I don't think I can do this anymore, maybe we should turn around. Josh? Josh, are you listening to me?" Embry rambled on. Josh shook his head and he stopped in his track and turned back to the nervous boy.
"Embry, I say this in the nicest way possible, shut up!" Josh raised his voice a bit, which caused Embry to press his lips together. "Look, you've come this far haven't you? Doesn't it feel good? The rush of it all."
Embry thought about it. He wasn't sure if he liked the feeling Josh was talking about. He felt bad for lying to his mom, and he wasn't acquainted with anyone at the party except for Josh. He wasn't a social butterfly so he had a feeling he'd spent the night in the corner watched as multiple girls fawned over Josh.
"Uh, I'm not sure yet."
Josh nodded, "That's fine. We're here anyway so why don't we go inside to see how everything is. If it's lame, we'll leave. That's a promise."
"You sure?" Embry asked he wanted to be certain Josh was going to be true to his words. "Even if you have a bunch of girls talking to you, you'll leave if I ask you to?"
"Cross my heart." Josh smiled as he did the motion with his finger on the left side of his chest. His words relaxed Embry a bit, as he nodded. Josh clapped his hands together and the two entered the house.
Nicole's house was pretty big so there were a lot of people inside. Embry blinked as he tried to get his eyes to adjust to the LED lights that illuminated the house, music blasted in his ears as he had to squish past people to get by. If he was any shorter, he was sure he'd lose Josh in the crowd. Josh was the complete opposite of Embry for the first time in a while he felt at ease, parties were his thing. He knew how to maneuver his way around, and the light and loud music were nothing compared to other parties he'd been too.
Josh, followed closely by Embry made his way to the kitchen where he saw coolers with beer, followed by a stack of them on the side. He found it interesting when he saw a lock on the fridge.
'Hm, that's pretty smart.'
He thought to himself. That way no one would be going into her fridge for other things. Josh made his way to one of the coolers and grabbed two beers, he turned to Embry and offered him one.
