THEY SAT IN A COMFORTABLE SILENCE FOR A WHILE, AS THEY WAITED FOR LUNCH TO ARRIVE. Josh was somehow able to convince Embry to stay in the cafeteria with him, and now the two of them were alone. Engaging in some small talk, but mostly in silence. Josh laid down across the table's bench, his eyes were closed his hands were interlocked and placed on his stomach as he answered Embry's questions.

"So," he stretched out the syllables as his fingers tapped the table. His brown eyes glanced over at Josh who looked completely in his element. He was calm, his body and face were relaxed. Embry thought back to history class and the silent battle the new kid had had with their teacher. Seeing Josh now made him wonder if that had been the same person. "why La Push?"

"What do you mean?"

Embry pressed his lips together as he paused. He thought about it, the question he wanted to ask. He wanted to know why Josh had suddenly appeared, he was an enigma. No one had known about him until this day. Sam Uley's younger brother. Embry glanced over at Josh once more, he noticed his body was no longer relaxed, no he was tense but trying to hide it. His state made Embry realize how personal his question was.

"Nevermind," he spoke up again, much to Josh's surprise. The boy opened his eyes as he caught a glimpse at Embry. Josh had a raised eyebrow, as a smirk grew on his face.

"What suddenly not interested in solving the mystery? You wanna know, don't you? Why I'm here, who I am. What I'm doing?" he asked him. Embry sat up straight as he inhaled, he tapped his foot against the ground before finally facing Josh.

"It's none of business, even if I want to know," he revealed. Josh stopped for a moment, but only for a moment. Then he laughed, laughed as though Embry had said the most hilarious thing in the world. The taller boy just sat there confused about why he was laughing so hard. Josh himself didn't know why he found it funny if anything he was mostly just relieved. Embry was probably the first person who didn't try to pry into his past, the first person who treated him like a human being and not some broken toy that needed to be fixed.

"You're alright, Call."

"Uh, thank you?"
