THE FOLLOWING DAY WAS EVEN MORE AWKWARD THAN THE LAST. Joshua woke up from his slumber in the same clothes he'd worn the previous day. He looked around and part of him was disappointed that it hadn't just been a dream. Though he quickly shook that thought out of his head and decided to change out of his clothes into something more comfortable. He noticed that his things were no longer all over the floor but instead had been unpacked. He grabbed some clothes from his closet; that being sweatpants and a sweater. The boy yawned as he stretched out his body, repulsed by his morning breath he walked out of the guestroom he was using as his own towards the bathroom to brush his teeth, making sure to bring his toothbrush and paste with him.
After the boy has finished brushing his teeth he walked downstairs, while running his hand through his messy hair. As he got closer and closer to the kitchen he heard voices talking.
" . . . he's already here."
"Wait, right now? He's in the house?"
There were two voices, one Josh recognized as being Sam's voice, while the other was female. He wasn't sure who that voice belonged to, but he could guess. The boy walked into the room and cleared his throat, which surprised the two people, Sam, and the woman sitting beside him. They turned and Josh's eyes widened when he saw the girl. She looked about Sam's age, and was beautiful, except for the fact that she had three large claw marks scaring half of her face.
"Woah, what happened to you?" Josh blurted out, he caught the angered look he was getting from Sam, but the young woman just smiled kindly.
"I got attacked, by a bear," she told him. Josh's eyes widened even more than before, he scanned the woman up and down. She didn't seem like the type to be able to fight off a bear — but looks can be deceiving.
"Damn. Can't even lie, that's hot," he smirked, as he held out his hand for her to shake. "I'm Josh."
The young woman took his hand into hers. "Emily Young." Josh glanced over at Sam and realized that this was the Emily who had made him all that food.
"It's nice to meet you, Emily." he bent down and kissed her the back of her hand. Emily laughed at the boy's antics. He was cute, and certainly much different than she expected him to be. Sam cleared his throat loudly, clearly, he didn't find Joshua's moves very amusing.
"It's Monday," Sam said while staring at the teenager before him. Josh, who'd long since dropped Emily's hand, nodded.
"Congratulations, you can read a calendar," Josh said while rolling his eyes. He didn't understand why Sam was telling him what day of the week it was.
