THE ONLY THING THAT HE SAID TO HIM WAS THAT HE WAS SORRY, AND THEN HE LEFT. Embry didn't even care about the apology, mostly because he didn't need it, what he cared about was the fact that Josh had been alone for the past few days. It was obvious to everyone that Paul had ditched him, like Jared Cameron before him, Paul had missed a bunch of school days then came back with his hair cut short, and buffed up. He and Jared have been glued at the hip ever since, and that bothered Josh who'd formed a bond with the junior.

He was different somehow, Embry concluded. Something about Josh had changed, before he carried himself with a smirk or grin on his face but hidden underneath there was anger. Before he was acting fine when he was furious at something. But now, he wasn't hiding anymore, now the grin was gone and replaced with a frown. This should have been worse if it wasn't for the fact that he was no longer hiding his true feelings.

He was sad, and so his out appearance was sad as well, nothing hidden.

"Did you see the dark circles under his eyes?" Jacob asked as they sat at the lunch table, only the three of them. Josh sat in the corner by himself staring at his food, but not eating it.

"His eyes were bloodshot," Quil added, they were all staring at him. The once tormented badass had crumbled and was replaced with a sad little boy, and they had no idea why.

'I should take to him, I mean that's what friends do. And that's what we are friends.'

Embry thought to himself. If he wanted to talk to him when would be the right time to do so? Not at school, or in the crowded cafeteria. The boy kept his eyes on Josh up until the moment were he stopped picking his food threw it in the trash can and walked out of the cafeteria.

When school was over for the day, Embry hurried down the halls leaving both Jacob and Quil confused, because the three of them always walked home together. The tall boy's eyes searched the halls for a specific face, but he couldn't find him. He couldn't find Josh anywhere, and as time went by and more students filled out the building he started losing hope.

Had he skipped the rest of the school? Or maybe he'd gotten detention again? Or maybe —

"Excuse me." Embry felt his heart race when he heard his voice. He spun around and saw Josh standing behind him, waiting for him to step out of his way as Embry was just standing in the doorway.
