The Light Inside the Darkness

Chapter Eight

~Warning: Very violent and unpleasant scene below so read at your own risk~

I bolted upright in bed clutching the sheets tightly in my hands beside me as my body was drenched in the cold sweats while my breathing was much more intense than normal. I had just woken up from another nightmare about Daniel for I had dreamt of him killing me with that terrifying smile plastered on his face. He was even chasing after me with those cold dead violet eyes trained on me watching my every move while he smiled at me. He was even laughing as he killed everyone I loved right in front of me before finally deciding that it was my time to die. It was one of the most terrifying things I have ever experienced in my life and the most horrifying thing about it is that it felt so real that I can still feel his strong grip on my wrist and even feel the pain in my scalp from where he pulled my hair before stabbing me in the chest. I held my hand to my chest where I could feel my rapid heartbeat as well my heaving breathing as my chest raised and fall rather quickly. I run my hand, that is not against my chest, through my hair as I whisper to myself "That felt way too real. Why would I dream of such a horrible event?"

After a few moments, I managed to gather myself enough that I could finally call for Everline who enter my room in just a few seconds later "Is there anything I can help you with-" she trailed off as she looked at me providing me with the intel that I look as terrible as I feel without ever having to say it aloud. "Miss are you alright? Would you like me to call the doctor if you are feeling unwell?" I shook my head "No that won't be necessary I feel just fine I am only a bit disorientated that is all."

"Are you sure that is all miss. Because I can get the doctor to came and see you in the matter of a few minutes." I shook my head "No that won't be necessary I'm alright." She looked a bit disbelieving but didn't object this time around "Alright miss if you say so."

"Alright, do you think you can get a bath ready for me I could use one right about now." She nodded her head "I will get on it right away miss." She said walking into the bathroom I finally got my heartbeat and breathing back to normal but I couldn't stop the uneasiness that I kept feeling even though I know that I am perfectly safe and that it was all just a crazy dream and none of it was real. Daniel just terrified me so I dreamt of him killing us just like he did to all those side characters in the book even though now I know that we're real people in this book and not just side characters. Suddenly Everline walked out of the bathroom "Alright Miss your bath is ready now if you need anything else just let me know." She looked so concerned about me right Just letting me silently know I probably still don't look any better despite finally being able to get my breathing and heartbeat back to normal. "Okay thank you, Everline. You may go now I will call on you once I am done." She nodded and right before she walked out the door I stopped her "Oh and Everline," she paused and turned towards me to look at me "please don't let anyone know of this." She sighed and nodded before walking out the door leaving me to my accord so I got off my bed even though my body is still a little shaky and my legs feel kind of like Jell-O but I still made it to the bathroom without any trouble at all.

I walked into the bathroom which was filled with steam which helped to improve my senses I walked over to the mirror and looked at my reflection and flinched at the person I saw staring back at me. For the person, I saw looked extremely pale like they had just seen a ghost and their blue eyes were bloodshot from a restless sleep. And what shocked me the most was that there was a red tint around my neck almost like a handprint just like in my dream where he held me down by my throat right before he plunged his knife into my chest. I walked over the bathtub and after letting my nightgown slip off my body and onto the floor. I stepped into the bathtub letting the warmth of the bathwater envelope my body as I slowly lower myself into the water until I am sitting in the bathtub with the water surrounding my entire body. I try to lose myself in the warmth of the water and forget about that awful dream but ultimately that failed as I recalled everything about that dream all over again.
