We got to the other side of town and we knew that our hands had to disconnect from each other, we wasn't dating, and for most, nobody knew we were ever a thing. It was officially night time now, the moon was up, the stars were out, lights were on and the streets were dark. I barely knew the other side of town, I knew my dad lived here though.
When me and Caleb were younger we had a bad experience with our dad as he didn't want us as his children, he wanted us as his slaves. Each time mum would leave the house he would hit us and tell us to do everything for him. He would starve us too. When mum would get back he wouldn't let us say anything, he said 'If you tell your mother, I'll kill all of you, I swear I will!' All of these thoughts came rushing back through my head as I walked though these eerie streets. I looked over to Shawn to see he was looking everywhere for Caleb. That's when it hit me, what if Caleb was with dad. If he was we needed to find him, and fast. "Shawn, my dad lives round in this neighbourhood. I cant help but think that my dad may have taken him." Shawn looked at me, I felt like he could see how scared I was. "Which house is your dads?" I pointed out the apartments down the road. "Room 208..." He grabbed me by my hand "So that's where we go, don't worry I would let him touch a single hair on you head." Just like always, he made me feel safe.
We arrived at the apartment block, it had stains everywhere, of every substance you could ever think of, blood, alcohol. It stunk and the stench made me want to throw up. I went over to the main reception. "Is anyone in the room 208?" The woman looked confused. "I cant give out personal information," I knew my brothers life was at risk "Here" Shawn stepped in front of me and gave the woman £100 "Now tell us if someone is it that room." The receptionist nodded "Yes there is someone in the room, but you never heard it from me." As we walked away I said thank you to her.
We ran up the stairs to room 208. "Layla, are you sure you want to do this." I shook my head. I was scared, but I needed to find Caleb. Shawn knocked on the door as I tried to hide behind him. I could hear someone unlocking the door, it opened and I could see my dad. I was about to burst into tears. "What do you want!" I heard his musky tone, it smelt like heavy alcohol. "Hello sir. My name is Shawn Cohen, may I come in?" Shawn handled it so well. Liked he had done something like this before. My dad let us in, I revealed myself. "And who are you!" He said as he looked down at me. "I'm Layla, Layla Fawn..." He stood there and looked at me, astonished I had come to his door. Surprisingly he still let us in. "So what brings you here..." I explained about how Caleb was missing, we thought that he may have come to see my dad. "So the boy has disappeared. Thank god! I bet your mother is so happy." I couldn't believe what he was saying, a tear rolled down my cheek, crating rivers of sadness and sorrow. I felt Shawn's arm wrap around me, it comforted me, but not enough. I cant believe my dad has no sympathy for his own son. I ran out of the door and Shawn didn't follow right after me.
I shut the door and I could hear him shouting at my dad, saying how bad he is of a father for making his daughter cry and not even caring about his missing son. I pushed myself against the wall next to the door. I slid down until I fell to the floor. "Layla! Omg I've missed you so much!" I heard Caleb's voice and felt his arms wrap as far as they could around me. "Caleb! You had us all worried sick, why are you out here?" He looked happy to see me. "I saw dad on our side of town and followed him here." And at that moment, I heard the door slam. "Layla... Caleb!" Shawn ran over and hugged us both. "Layla, is this your boyfriend?" Caleb said as he laughed. We all laughed. "Come on, I better get you guys home." Shawn put Caleb on his shoulders as he was tired, he looked over to me and smiled. We got towards the alley, Caleb was fast asleep by now, I felt Shawn's warm hand meet mine. "Layla! Your freezing! Here." He covered my shoulders with his jacked that swooped down to my knees. "Thank you, could we take the road out of town to walk back into our side so we don't have to go through the alley?" He nodded and we went through Mrosca city. The sun started to rise and I called my mum telling her we found Caleb. When we reached our side of town, I was so tired. I went straight to my room and slept. I couldn't believe what a trip I had gone through to find Caleb. But I was glad, without him I don't know what I'd do.
