The more I thought about Darcy, the more I thought about other things. Like Liam still being in prison, so Darcy would have no contact with me or my family. I didn't like calling him dad anymore, he left them teamed up on a mission to torture me and most possibly end my life. He was far from a fatherly figure, definitely someone I wouldn't want in my life or Gracie's. "Shawn, I don't think its safe for Gracie to go to school anymore." I sat there whilst shaking my head into my hands staring at the floor. I felt Shawn's hand lift my chin up, our eyes met. "I know that you are worried about Gracie and to be honest, I am too but who are we meant to get to teach our daughter. You know private schools and teachers are far too much money." I nodded, then I had my genius idea. "We should tell the police what's going on, maybe they will organise a teacher to come and teach our daughter as they wouldn't want any of their citizens to get hurt." We both nodded and got our coats ready to go tell the police. "Bailey, Dillon. We are going out for a bit. Take care of Gracie and tell her we love her." We headed out of the door and I felt a chill along my spine. I knew I would feel like I was in senior year all over again. With the horrible feeling of having a metal stick prodded into me. It felt like it all happened again, the way it pierced my skin. "Layla?" I realised that Shawn has been trying to get my attention all this time. My hand was held on my scar from where I got impaled. "Sorry my mind is so occupied with so many thoughts." He grabbed my hand from my belly and held it beside his side. "Come on, let's get going!" We walked along to the end of our street and went down the main road to get into the city centre.
"Do you recon our plan will work?" Shawn said quietly next to me." I put my other hand in my pocket to make sure the note that Darcy might have sent was there. I nodded to him "I think it should..." We walked on without saying a single word until we stood facing the police station. I looked up to the top of it to see the massive police logo. "Are you sure you want to do this, we can always go home Layla." I looked up to him "I'm sure, I would never forgive myself if something would've happened to Gracie." We walked up to the door and we were off.
When we got inside the air was thick with the scent of coffee and chocolate doughnuts. We got called over to the front desk "Hello, how may I help you." I stood there not knowing what to say. The girls eyes widened whilst looking into mine, she seemed annoyed that I wouldn't answer her. Just as her mouth began to open Shawn cut her off "Hello, could you please direct me to who ever is working on the Darcy Chapman Case." She glared her eyes at Shawn now. "I'm sorry that is private and confidential." Her voice sounded like she was becoming so angry at us. "Well, this right here is Layla Cohen. The victim of Darcy Chapman and she is feeling threatened by Darcy after seeing some evidence which might support your case." The receptionist looked taken back after what she said. She turned on her phone and dialed a number. "Hello, Officer Black. Could you come down to the front desk please. Thank you." She put her phone down "I've got the officer working on the case coming down now to speak to you guys. I'm sorry" She looked over to me "Layla, I take it. How are you doing." Just as I was about to speak, a tall, muscly bloke came through the wooden double doors. He peered around and saw me and Shawn and walked over slowly to us. "Hello I'm Officer Black but you can call me Steven." He reached out his hand and we both shook it. He guided us to a more quieter room with two chairs on either side of a desk. Me and Shawn sat on one, Steven the other. "So what is this so called evidence you have found." I rumbled my hand into my pocket and pulled out the note I was sure Darcy wrote and handed it over to the officer. "Interesting, I can see why you think Darcy has written it, we will get it scanned for fingerprint testing. We will get back to you once we find out, any other concerns?" I nodded "I'm scared about my daughter Gracie going to school but I don't have enough to pay for a private tutor and I and Shawn both work full time jobs." The officer got out his phone "Hello, can we get a private tutor arranged for the Cohen household. Thanks" He ended the call "We will make sure your tutor is there Monday morning." We left the building. "I'm glad that worked Shawn. Otherwise I would've been so scared about everything." He nodded and we left the station to get back home.
I got to the door and started locking up, I really felt unsafe even in my own home. "Awww babe come look at this." I heard Shawn say in a whispered shout from the over room. I went in to find the TV on with Sponge Bob square pants the film on, I looked over to the couch to see Dillon and Bailey cuddled up with Gracie in the middle, all of them asleep. We obviously didn't want to wake them as they seemed so peaceful and happy. My phone buzzed in my pocket as a call came through. I didn't recognize the number, it could've been Darcy but I knew that it was probably Steven calling about the case. "Hello?" I answered the phone cautiously. "Hello, Is this Layla Cohen?" I heard the voice, it sounded like a male. "Yes it is." A long pause happened after that until a high pitch tone came down the phone." I remember the sound and Shawn looking at me concerned. Then I just remembered hitting my head across the floor.
*Beep... Beep... Beep* I heard a beeping sound ringing around my head. I felt a cold hand brush against mine. "Layla, are you awake." I opened my eyes slowly to look at him. He put his over hand on my cheek and caressed it. "Shawn... Where are we." I saw a look of relief in his face, maybe I hit my head pretty hard, but I'd have to have my memory wiped to forget about him. I smiled. "We are in the hospital you passed out whilst you were on the phone to someone." It slowly came back to me. "It was a males voice, I thought it was Officer Black at first but then they asked for my name and then... it was the highest pitched sound I've ever heard." The nurse from across the room muttered something and then went to go get another doctor. "Where's Gracie?" Shawn looked me in the eyes and reassured me "She is still with Dillon and Bailey." I nodded and closed my eyes.
I heard the doctors come back in and say something about getting a scan. But I didn't quite catch what the scan was for. They wheeled me away in my bed and Shawn ran beside me the whole time before he had to wait at the doors. He blew me a kiss and I raised my arm a little to catch it. We got into a room, I assumed it was the scanning room. They put me under what looked like a massive white doughnut and I had to look into the small white screen at the top of it. "Ok Layla, can you heard us." I heard a speaker say. The memories rushed through my head. The screen became the small vent, I was soaked in water. I was on the floor with a metal rod in my skin. "Get me out of here. Darcy!" I heard a familiar voice as the hands touched my face "Layla, Layla. It's ok shh." I saw that it was just a hallucination and I was still getting my scan. After I saw Shawn I smiled and then it was attempt two of the scan. This time they didn't talk to me. They told Shawn what to say and then I would listen to what they were saying from him.
"Ok Layla, your gonna go back in and you are going to watch the white screen and your going to tell us what you see. Ok here's the first image" I looked at it, at first it looked like a butterfly but then it turned into a butterfly with a note attached, and then formed into Darcy's face. "I see Darcy... Darcy Chapman." I didn't see the meaning of this test. The next image came up and I saw a family holding hands "That's a happy family holding hands." Multiple images later they let me out. I asked what that was for "Well as you concentrated on the images we looked at parts of your brain to see if you had any brain damage from your incident and well, your very lucky nothing happened to you other than passing out. You could've had brain damage or life threatening injuries. I looked over to where the room through which the doctors scanned my brain and I could see a few doctors but then they got moved aside. I saw Shawn looking in relief. I got up as he ran in. He lifted me up and spun me around smiling up at me. The room went black, right now nothing bothered me. It was me and him.
