Layla's POV
I felt a pounding on my head. It was as if I had been hit over the head. All I could remember was calling my doctor and then I remembered nothing. "Hi baby, how are you feeling?" I could hear Shawn. I knew he was looking for Gracie, so why would he be here. I opened my eyes wider to realize he was actually here. "Shawn, you, you cant be here. Gracie is still missing. What about grac-" He cut me off "Baby, calm down. We found her. She's asleep right now its about 4 in the morning. She tried to stay up so she could see you but she didn't really know why you were having an operation." To be honest I didn't know myself. I looked around me to see a poster saying 'Bye bye tumor.' I knew this meant that I must have had something wrong with my head. As that was the reason I was calling my doctor. "Ok, lets get you some rest and then you can leave in the morning."
I woke up to a ray of sunlight beaming down onto my eyes. I opened my eyes to see that it was coming through the hospital curtains. I sat up to see Gracie sat at the end of my bed with Shawn next to her. Gracies eyes met mine. "Mummy! So much has happened since you have been in here. I went to the park with a kind lady and her boyfriend they were really happy a bit like you and daddy. Then they left me in the park on my own. But then a nice police officer brought me here to daddy. I were gonna stay up with you but I was just too tired." She said quickly. I tried to process everything she was saying but I didn't quite catch anything. I couldn't tell if it was just too early in the morning or if I was still hurting from the operation. "Gracie, mummy is still a little sore from being in here. Lets go get her some breakfast." Shawn held Gracies hand and they went out of the room. Everything started coming back to me. About how I was on the phone and then I just fell to the ground. I started to overthink about what could've happened if I wasn't on the call to my doctor. Just as I started getting into deep thought I was interrupted by Gracie passing me a bacon butty. It was only then I realized Shawn tried doing her hair. She had two pigtails with half the hair dangling out of the bobbles. I was grateful that he tried though.
Visiting hours were over now and I was extremely tired, I fell asleep pretty much immediately. When I woke up the doctors told me that I had to stay in for the weekend. But no visitors allowed. So I decided I should meet some people when I go to get lunch. When lunch came around, I really wanted a chicken salad. I queued up for one and waited patiently. I felt two light taps on the bottoms of my shoulder blades. "Hello, I haven't seen you around here before, did you get emitted recently?" I turned around to see a small woman, her hair was scraped up into a high-ponytail. "Yes, I had an operation for a tumor." She looked at the cut on my head and gasped. We carried on talking for a while, she told me she was in the hospital after failing a back flip and breaking her wrist. "I get released on Monday." She looked back at me and smiled "OMG so do I!" We got our salads and sat down. We were getting to know each other quite well. "I live near the police station." She said whilst putting a relatively large piece of chicken in her mouth. She explained a little more on where she lived. "Oh my, your living in the same house I lived in as a kid! What a small world aye! I'm sorry, I forgot what did you say your name was again." She looked at my scar and shook her head. "It's Jessica but you can call me Jess, it's okay if you forgot its probably all the medication your on."
Chapter Eight
Monday soon came by. I said goodbye to Jess. We had organised to meet up soon. Dillon wanted to come too, I weren't going to say that I wouldn't. I walked out my door and locked up after me. Shawn was working and Gracie was at day care. After I took my keys out of the door, I heard a loud noise coming from behind me. I turned around to see Dillon. "It's about time, I have been waiting here for ages. " I laughed as I got into the car. We drove to my old home. It looked very different, the walls were white now and the door was green. It was almost unrecognizable. I walked up to the door and knocked on. I could hear movement of keys behind the door. The door opened and to my surprise an old woman answered the door. "Jess lives here right" The old woman gave me a smile and turns to look behind her. She looks over to see Jess. Jess came over to the door and waved happily at me. She looked behind me to see Dillon. "Jess this is my good friend Dillon from high school. She smiled "Hi Dillon." Dillon said hi back before getting into the car ready to drive us to Gracies coffee shop. Jess looked confused when we got there. "Do you know where we are Jess?" she nodded but still looked around like she was looking for something. "Where's Dillon gone?" I thought she was just worried as we came in with him but we didn't come out with him. He walks out of the toilet and his eye twitches as he comes back out of the toilet. Jess winks at him thinking he was winking at her. "Jess, he didn't wink he was twitching." She snarled at me. "You don't know that." Even though she was small, she was very feisty which scared me. I shouldn't of been scared of her, but I was? Jess went over to the counter. Dillon came over. "I'll go order for you, what do you want." I looked over to Jess and then back to Dillon "I'll have a vanilla bean frap please." He nodded then went to queue up. I turned on my phone to see that it was 12:15, that meant that Shawn should've been on his break. I sent him a quick text *Hey, I was wondering if you wanna go somewhere tonight. I'll ask Dillon to baby sit Gracie. As Bailey is in Liverpool. Up to you though baby xx* Jess came back and started drinking her coffee without looking at me. Dillon came back and gave me my coffee. "Thank you, your such a good friend." I sit back and turned back on my phone on to see if Shawn texted back, he hadn't texted me back yet. I looked up and Jess gave me a dirty look and that started talking to Dillon. Was she jealous of me and Dillon being friends?
About half an hour passed and I didn't want to stay at Gracies. "Alright I have to go as I have to pick up Gracie. Nice seeing you guys. We will definitely do this again!" I smiled as I left. Dillon said bye but Jess just seemed to stare right through me and she mumbled something under her breath. I remember what I said to Shawn about Gracie being looked after by Dillon. I called him just after I got passed the boarder to the separate sides of town. "Hey Dillon." He picked up the phone and I heard him shushing to someone. "Hey Layla! What's up?" I replied to him. " I was wondering if you would babysit Gracie tonight? I'm thinking of surprising Shawn to a drive-in movie." I heard Jess say oh can I come too Dill? I only ever called him Dill, he hated people calling him Dill... "Yea that will be fine Layla. I'll bring Jess." I said goodbye and I went into the house. I still had hours before I need to go and get Gracie. I sat on the couch when a text came through. *Shawn- Hey, ye sure but you know I don't like surprises. Don't make it too big or I'll feel bad as I don't need to be spoiled.* Before I knew it, it was time to pick up Gracie. I walked to day care and picked her up. She came out with her hands covered in pink and purple paint. She handed me a piece of paper with a few splodges of pink, purple, green and blue paint. "What is it sweetie?" She smiled as I took her hand as we walked out of the doors. "Its a butterbli." I smiled back at her. "Wow its such a pretty butterfly, Its wings are beautiful."
