It was freezing when Riel awoke.

When she opened her eyes, all she could see was pitch black. All around her she could feel a silk fabric that was very plush and soft. It felt as if she were laying on a cloud, not that she'd ever lain on one. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she could make out a faint distortion above her head. With a small shrug, she tried to push herself up but she hit a wall of glass.

Her hand flew up to her forehead which was now slightly throbbing. Her brows furrowed in confusion, although it only worsened the pain. She winced.

Why was there glass overtop of her? She raised her hands and tried to push against the cool surface, and with great effort, the barrier swung open and she was free. Much to her relief, when she tried to sit up a second time, she wasn't met with another wall of glass.

As she looked around to try and figure out where she was, her eyes were suddenly met with many fluorescent lights turning on. She immediately shut her eyes. Slowly, she re-opened them and they adjusted to the bright light.

Now that she had she sight back, she could see that she was in a completely white room. On her left, there was a hallway. Riel swung her legs over the edge of the bed (if that's what it was) and placed her feet on the floor. She was thankful that she was wearing a pair of silk slippers to protect her feet from the cold floor, even if she couldn't remember how she had gotten them.

As she put her full weight on her legs, she could feel her knees start to give out and she fell to the floor with a loud thud. Her limbs felt weak, and she wondered just how long she had been asleep. With great effort, Riel pushed herself up off of the ground and slowly made her way to the hallway.

She stumbled down the corridor with one hand on the wall to keep herself stable. On the other side, she saw something she wasn't expecting at all.

An endless sea of stars.

It was the most beautiful yet terrifying thing she had ever seen. Without thinking, her feet took her to the massive window so that she could be closer to it. She pressed her palms against the glass and her jaw dropped in awe. The tiny balls of light seemed so close even that she could reach out and pluck one from space even though they were far away.

Tearing her gaze away from the scene, she turned around and continued on her mission of scouting out the ship. As she continued along the corridor, she reached a large room that was circular with command panels in rows. In the middle, there was a large chair that almost seemed to pull Riel toward it.

She walked to the chair and ran her fingers along the back of in. On the right arm, there were little buttons that must help to control the ship. Her legs began to feel weak again from standing for too long. She decided to sit down and she practically melted into the soft cushioning of the chair.
