She glared at him, but when she saw him on the ground, her gaze turned into one of horror. She looked from him to her hand, the one that was still suspended mid-air and was strangling Kylo Ren. She tried to stop, but she couldn't. It was as if some invisible force was keeping it there.

Riel felt like she was going to be sick. With her other hand, she ripped her arm out of the air and collapsed.

It had been nearly a week since Riel had used the force on Kylo Ren. Even though she had previously overpowered him, that time had been different. Yes, it had been an accident, but she had had control over her powers, to some extent. And in the back of her mind had been something, no. Someone coaxing her to do it.

Riel couldn't remember what they had said, the whole situation had been a blur to her, but she knew that it was something foul. The worst part of it all had been that as she had looked down at him, she had felt sympathy. She thought back to the first time she had met him. At first, she had sensed the staggering darkness in him, but despite all of that, there had been a glimmer of light. Perhaps he wasn't the monster that she had painted him to be.

No.

Riel's stomach grumbled. She tried to disregard it, but it groaned in protest. Riel narrowed her eyes but decided to go and find a bite to eat. She opened the door and noticed that the guard who was usually posted outside of her room wasn't there.

Odd

From the door of Kylo Ren's room, Riel sensed something. It was the same sensation she had had when she had seen the black thing in his chambers and instead of fearing it, she was curious. She closed her eyes for a moment and felt for the commander, but he wasn't there. With a quick glance down either end of the corridor to see if anyone was coming, Riel darted into his room.

It looked the same from the one time she had seen it before. Everything in perfect order, not an inch out of place. She crept over to the little stairway in the corner and descended the steps. The shiny white walls glared at her and Riel knew that she shouldn't have been in there, but she didn't leave.

Right where it had before was the black mass, sitting on its pedestal in all of its glory. Riel wandered closer and stared down at it. It was a helmet, bearing some resemblance to Kylo Ren's. Staring right back at her were two gaping holes where eyes should have been. The entire thing looked like it had been sent into an incinerator and melted.
