She looked away from his cruel face. "If it's alright with you, I'll be returning to my chambers now, commander."

She didn't dare wait for a snarky response, briskly walking down the hall, distancing herself from Kylo Ren and that awful chamber.

Kylo Ren stared at the princess's retreating form.

When he had first heard of her meeting with the Supreme Leader mere minutes ago, he had been enraged, but now all of that fury had left him. Ever since the princess had witnessed what had happened on the planet below, Kylo Ren had been planning on speaking to her about it, assuring her that it was necessary, but the Supreme Leader had gotten to her first.

He remembered when he had first questioned the ways of the Dark Side, the night he had fled his uncle's Jedi Academy. He remembered the heat of the flames against his face and the cackling of Snoke as the building crumbled to the ground. He remembered the screaming of his classmates as they burned, the agony in their voices as they died out one by one.

He had had to turn away, force himself to block out the sounds, but not before wondering if he had made the right decision. If the torment of his soul was worth the suffering of countless others'. But there had been no turning back then. He had delved too deep into the Dark Side of the force. His mind was drunk with the power he held inside, and he no longer felt the urge to beg for forgiveness.

Riel threw herself onto her bed, unsure of the First Order nor of what to do with herself. The whole situation felt familiar to her as if it had happened to her before. She tried to remember but felt as if she were grasping at thin air.

She sighed and closed her eyes.

Loud explosions echoed all around her, making her ears ring. All around her larger columns rose up to the ceiling, forming a long passageway with large windows. Outside were hundreds of ships, laying siege to the city below. A servant boy ran past her just as the glass was blown in, knocking down both Riel and the servant. The servant, however, did not seem to notice as he picked himself up and continued running. If Riel had had half a mind, she would have followed him, but the carnage outside was too striking.

With the windows gone, the explosions sounded deafening, barely drowning out the cries from the citizens of the city. Many had gathered at the gates of the palace, clawing desperately, trying to get through to safety.

Fools. She thought. There is no safety here.
She had lost hope long ago and there had been no point in shedding tears on men, women, and children who were already dead many hours before.
The air raid had stopped, having made scars in the earth that would marr the planet for generations.
