Are you sure Sona everything's gonna be fine?" Dev adjusted his suit while Sona tied the tie.
"Dev Dixit, calm down OK." She assured.
"You don't seem to be nervous?" He asked
"Cuz I am not" was her simple reply.
"You will be meeting your in laws for the first time" he said emphasizing each word.
"I met your mom at Rehaan's wedding" she stated
"But you never talked right?" He questioned.
"Thats true. But I saw them"
"But its my first time meeting your parents" Dev had frown lines while Sona laughed hard.
"You weren't even afraid when we had sex for the first time" and she continued laughing.
"This is ridiculous. I am serious Sona. What if they don't like me?"
"Listen Dev, I have told them about you and I always blabber about you. They trust my choice and even if they don't like your one characteristic, they will reconsider it for me" Sona turned around and looked herself in front of the mirror. She was draped in a peach coloured Saari with adequate accessories and proper hairstyle.
"You are looking divine" he kissed her cheek.
"And you are looking really handsome"
He hugged her from behind.
Its been two years and Sona's office settled well in India and now they knew that their story is not temporary. So its time to meet the parent in a different way. Both of them will meet their in laws separately.
"Let's go Dev"
.

.
.
"Namaste Aunty, Namaste Uncle" Dev greeted their in laws and took their blessings."We are so happy to finally meet you Dev" Sona's father hugged him and Dev calmed.
"Have your seat" and they settled. Now it was awkward. What to say next?
"What do you wanna have? I will order" Dev said.
"No need for formalities beta. The waiter will arrive soon." it was Sona's mother.
"OK aunty" he obliged
"Sona told us you have known each other since school." Sona's father said.
"Yes Uncle, we were in the same school and then we met at the wedding" his reply was short. Thoughts were crossing his mind.
"Sona mostly told us about you, your profession, your family and all. But I wanna know something else. Do you fight with each other?" Sona's mother's question was personal.
Dev was silent for a minute or two.
"We know it's personal and we shouldn't interfere in these matters but she has fought with us a lot of times for many reasons and it hampered our relationship"
He wasn't expecting that Uncle would be so crystal clear in whatever he was saying.
"Uncle, like every couple we do fight, sometimes shout like maniacs. And here I know your concern that it might hamper us too in the future. I agree Sona is stubborn but even if we don't talk for a day, I am not letting her go. The thought itself ruins my mood, it's early for any such conclusions as we are just two years old in a relationship but her place in my life is not only of a lover. She is my friend, my advisor and indeed my childhood enemy. Arguments or fights will make us stronger I believe and I am ready to take care of her for the rest of my life" Dev smiled followed by Uncle and Aunt.
"Hope you didn't mug up the speech for this meeting" Sona's father laughed and Dev too joined.
"Thanks to you that she returned back to us" Sona's mother said.
.

.
On the other side, Sona was sitting mum after greetings in front of Dev's mom and dad.
"We have met before" Dev's mom broke the ice.
"Yes Aunty" she replied.
"But we haven't yet" Dev's dad said with no smile. Now it was Sona's time.
"When did you start dating?" this was his first question. Sona always knew Dev had strict parents and as such he had very few female friends back in school. Leave few, it was tends to 0.
"two years back uncle" Sona chipped.
"He told us 6 months ago" He said. The entire time, Dev's mother was silent.
"I know. It took us time to be sure of each other and our priorities" Sona said honestly.
"You work in AT kearney right?" Dev's mother asked.
"Yes aunty. I was in San fransisco before I shifted back to India" To this, Dev's father raised a brow.
"You definitely know he was very shy in school and we were planning an arranged marriage for him but then he changed" Uncle said
"in a better way" Aunty added and smiled.
"What made you sure now of him?" he questioned
"Uncle, I have seen him since school and he was shy for sure. He wouldn't talk to any girls but then I met him at Rehaan's wedding and he was changed as you said. We never planned to be lovers but gradually emotions developed and it was purely unintentional. And we gave time to each other and didn't rush to conclusion of a life long commitment. A relationship takes time and ours wasn't exceptional. At the present, I can confidently say I love everything about him. His care for me, his supporting nature and love for old bollywood songs. I love him entirely" Sona spoke her heart out.
For the first time in the evening, Dev's father smiled.
"I too can confidently say that Dev is lucky to have found a girl who can openly confess her love" he said and Sona's lips curled up more.
"We are lucky too" Dev's mother stood and got up to hug Sona and she reciprocated it with equal affection.
After a chat session of two hours, the two families met and Devakshi had perfect smile.
He side hugged her and they watched their parents meet.
"We have a long way to go" Sona looked at him.
"Not long but beautiful way" he kissed her forehead.
