As soon as I realize John is free to enter the town now, I rush to find my arm. I'm probably gonna be screwed no matter what I try, but I at least have to be whole to try anything. I start digging through the debris of the house Sam has destroyer, but my arm doesn't seem to be there. Shit. Where is it? How does one even misplace his arm!?
"Oh, yoo-hoo," a high-pitched voice calls to me in a sing-song voice. When I turn around, I see none other than Chris, waving at me with my own arm, a smirk on her face. "Lose something?"
"Thanks," I tell her, quickly making my way over there. Then, surprising me, she sets the arm on fire and tosses it into the air. "Chris, what the fuck!?" As my arm lands, I throw myself on top of it to put the fire out. When I finally get it done, there's very little left. I won't be able to attach this until it's fully healed - if it even fully heals.
The witch starts cackling loudly, and I look up at her, and take in hear full appearance. She's wearing a revealing black dress, and has a good bit of makeup on, her lipstick almost as red as her hair, which is falling over her shoulders in natural waves. She looks dressed for a night out in town, which can only mean she's prepared for this. "What did you do?" She was with Daniel just half an hour ago. There's no way she just got ready afterward.
Chris sticks her tongue out at me. "Didn't really think your little mind trick would stick, did you?" Her smile is as cruel as that time in the bathroom, and she's just as confident as back then, thinking there was absolutely no chance for her to lose.
"You choose now to pick a fight?" I ask, glancing at John, who is still creeping nearer.
Chris' smile is unfaltering as she strolls over to me, then thrusts a palm out toward me. Something invisible hits me, sending me flying back to the area where the exorcists are having their little nap. Shit, I hope they wake up soon.
"Don't you understand yet, loser?" Chris mocks, laughing haughtily. "This has been the plan for a while now."
John walks past me without sparing me a single glance, then puts his arm around Chris. Oh, no. No, no, no. Shit, that's fucked up. Those two, together? Not only is he her senior by a few hundred years, but their personalities would mesh together like fire and ice - both nasty in their individual way. John gives me an oddly friendly smile. "Didn't expect there to be two big bads, did you?"
I start getting up, making sure I nudge Si with my foot as I do. I keep pushing him with it, praying he wakes up soon. If all of us attack them, we might win. Where's Savannah, too? There's also the crones, and a whole bunch of other monsters.
"Was it an act all along?" I ask Chris. She may be the nastiest person on the planet, but she's the lesser threat of the two. I'm gonna need to get her out of the way first, because she's still deadly enough to hinder me while I take John on.
"Not all along," she replies, rubbing her body all over John's side, nearly making me sick to my stomach. "I have been free of your little curse for the last few days. Of course, I've known about John even longer than that. It's the whole reason I sent you after the Hand of Glory, you poor sap."
"Why?" I ask. It's the question I've been asking myself all my life; Why was Chris so hateful? I thought I'd gotten my answer when I looked through her mind, but there's got to be more. That might be what shaped her into the power-hungry cunt she's become, but it doesn't tell me what her goal is.
"Oh, don't you see?" Chris says, eyes narrowed like a predatory cat's. "What is the one thing you have that I don't?"
"A heart?"
"Cute, but not quite right. Think a little deeper, Jonah. I'm sure it'll come to you."
What could she be on about? Love? She's got her boyfriend, and most of the witches are in awe of her, if a bit afraid. She's got great looks, and enough power to make an immortal like me work for a win against her. Wait, that's it.
