Adaya stood silently by her husband, holding her young daughter, as a servant passed around the bread and salt. He stopped in front of Robb and he took bread, dipping it into the salt, before the servant turned to Adaya and she did the same. The servant went around the room and ended at Walder Frey himself.
"My honored guests," The Frey lord spoke. "Be welcome within my walls and at my table. I extend to you my hospitality and protection in the light of the Seven."
"We thank you for your hospitality, my lord." Robb said to him. "I have come to make my apologies, my lord, and to beg your forgiveness."
"Don't beg my forgiveness, your Grace. It wasn't me you spurned, it was my girls."
With a wave of his hand, doors to the hall opened behind him and roughly a dozen girls filed into the great hall. Each one of them kept their eyes in the ground, seemingly scared to look up. They all formed two lines on each side of the room, stopping and looking down still.
"One of them was supposed to be queen, now none of them are." Walder said before he started naming each of the girls, stuttering on one of the girls' names but dismissing it easily.
Robb took a very smal step forwards as he spoke to the girls. "My ladies. All men should keep their word, kings most of all. I promised my brother to one of you, and because of my recklessness, that can no longer happen. The fault is not with you. Any man would be lucky to have any one of you." The king sighed before he spoke again. "I know these words cannot set right the wrong I have done to you and your house. I beg your forgiveness and pledge to do all I can to make amends so the Freys of the Crossing and the Starks of Winterfell may once again be friends."
Robb had barely finished before Walder clapped his hands and the girls were dismissed. "Very good." The old man's eyes drifted slowly over to Adaya. "Now, there's the pretty queen I've been hearing so much about. Come closer, let me have a look at you."
Taking a breath, Adaya handed her baby over to Talisa, who stood nearby, and took a few steps forwards, keeping her head held high.
"Still can't really see you." Lord Frey complained. "Old eyes."
Adaya, without hesitation, took more steps forwards, stopping just a yard or so from the lord. When she stopped again, she bowed her head slightly.
"Love. That's what the Starks of Winterfell call it, eh? Heh." Lord Frey said bitterly. "You wouldn't marry one of my daughters because you were married to this girl you...loved? Very honorable, but I call it a pretty face. Mmmm, very pretty. Prettier than this lot, that's for sure. Very shapely as well. Oh, you try to hide her under that dress. If you wanted to hide her, you shouldn't have brought her here in the first place."
The lord smirked back at Robb before leaning forwards slightly. "I can always see what's going on beneath a dress. Been at this a long time. I bet when you take that dress off, everything stays right where it is. Doesn't drop an inch."
The old man grinned as both Robb and Adaya became uncomfortable by this situation. The lord, however, wasn't done. "Your king says he denied my offer for love. I say he denied me for firm tits and a tight fit." Robb took a threatening step forwards, but his mother put her arm out to hold him back. "And I can respect that. When I was your age, I'd have broken fifty oaths to get into that without a second thought. Well, I've enough room in the hall for you lot. We'll set up tents outside with food and ale for the rest of your men."
Robb tried his best to bite back his anger, but it was still present when he spoke to Walder Frey. "Thank you, my lord."
Adaya bowed her head and turned away, walking back to her husband as the Frey lord stood and clapped his hands. "Well, let's get ready. The wine will flow red and the music will play loud and we'll put this mess behind us."
Despite his word, Adaya didn't feel like they were getting off the hook that easily. He was planning something else; she didn't know what or when, but she could sense it.
