The year was 1642 and a 581 year old Vampire/Witch Hybrid named Rayna wondered through the dimly lit corridors of her mansion on the central-south coast of England, the only noise she cared to hear was her servants bustling about the magnificent building.
"Mistress!" Her handmaid, Clara, called her name with a hint of desperation and a gasp for breath.
Rayna turned around to see the young girl hurrying over to her employer, her skirts getting caught up between her ankles.
"What is it Clara?" Rayna asked, swiping a stray strand of her snow white hair from her eyelash.
"You have a visitor, Mistress." Clara panted, stopping a couple of metres from the Vampiress.
"Thank you for informing me, darling. I'll see to our guest immediately." Rayna nodded.
Clara gave a small curtsey and scurried away.
The lady of the house walked a few feet in the direction she had just been, where the wall to her left turned into a balcony, which overlooked the downstairs foyer.
She gracefully placed her hands on the mahogany railing, peering over to see a tall, strikingly handsome man standing proud as he waited for his hostess.
"And who might you be?" She raised her voice, causing it to echo throughout the halls of the house.
The man's head shot up to his right to see Rayna, mostly hidden away in the shadows.
"Lucifer Morningstar, my Lady." He gave a cocky smile and a spectacular, exaggerated bow.
Rayna's eyebrows furrowed, feeling the vaguely familiar name swim through her mind.
"Morningstar?" She repeated, questioningly.
"Indeed, Lady Rayna." He stood up straight.
Rayna studied the man, intently. His dark brown, almost black hair was short and neat, his eyes just as dark and alluring. His clothes were that of nobility, causing Rayna to believe there was more to this man than just 'Lucifer Morningstar'.
"What can I do for you, sir?" The Vampire asked.
"Lord, if you don't mind." The man smirked.
"My apologies." Rayna raised an eyebrow, remaining sceptic of the man at her door.
"I'm looking to conduct some business. I hear you're the best businesswoman in the county." The man's smirked never faltered, only seeming to grow with each word.
"You heard correctly, my Lord. Just a moment."
Rayna began to walk back the way she had previously come, toward the stunning staircase at the centre of the house.
As she carefully made her way down each of the steps, she couldn't help but notice the stranger's eyes watching her every movement.
Rayna approached the man and held out her hand. As he took it and placed a gentle kiss on it, he maintained eye contact with her, the glimmer in his eyes not fading even once.
"A pleasure, my lady." He said.
"Shall we to the study?" Rayna suggested.
"After you." He smiled.
The Lady of the house gave him a smile in return and began to walk to the right side of the house, towards the large room that was her library and study.
As the pair entered the room, Lucifer looked around with his mouth partially open in awe.
"My my, you have quite the collection of books, Lady Rayna." He stated.
"Just ones I've obtained over the years." She sighed, moving gracefully over to her desk in the centre of the room. "What business would you like to discuss today?"
Lucifer grinned rather menacingly to himself as he looked down, fiddling with the pages of an open book on a table near the desk.
"Is the room secure, my lady?" He asked.
"Of course."
"Then I'll simply come out with it. I know what you are."
Rayna looked up with her eyes only from her diary, which sat open on the desk, to anywhere except the man before her.
"I'm not quite sure what you mean, my Lord." She hesitated.
"Oh, I do hate when folk play the fool." Lucifer sighed. "You're a Vampire, Rayna."
It was that moment when she made eye contact with him.
"How?" Her gaze grew cold in a matter of milliseconds.
"Oh, I know a lot of things." The man gave a devilish smile.
"Just a Vampire?" Rayna smirked.
She lifted her hand a turned it sharply as she recited a spell in her mind that caused the double doors to the room to slam shut, abruptly.
Lucifer, unphased, glanced round, spying the now closed door.
"Very good, my Lady." He chuckled.
Rayna used her Vampire speed to appear right in front of him.
"Who are you, Lucifer Morningstar?" She asked, wrapping her slender fingers around his throat, tightly, lifting him a foot up in the air.
He choked out, but kept his smirk.
"Put me down, if you please." Rayna hesitated again, but slowly released him.
Lucifer composed himself and soothingly rubbed his neck.
"Now... I'll show you mine, if you show me yours." He smirked.
Rayna thought for a moment. Was he also a Vampire? If this all went wrong, she could simply kill him and her new found problem would be over. So she nodded, her expression quite sad, for whatever reason.
She exhaled deeply and changed her face. The dark veins under her eyes were revealed; the whites of her eyes turning blood red.
Lucifer smiled and gently brushed her cheek with his knuckles before moving down her face. He then used his thumb to drop her bottom lip, divulging her two razor sharp fangs to his gaze.
"Beautiful." He whispered, taking a small step closer to her as his thumb softly stroked her silky, plump lips.
She looked up at him, tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong, darling?" He asked, backing away slightly.
"I..." Rayna began, backing away also. "I haven't been able to let anyone see the real me in a very long time." Her voice trembled.
His expression turned from sympathetic to quite fierce and that was when his entire face changed.
What stood before Rayna now, was a bald, red faced man. The whites of his eyes had turned black and his irises were red and almost glowing.
"Oh my God..." Rayna breathed.
Lucifer smirked and shrugged. "Not quite, darling. You're not the only one with a dark secret."
Rayna took half a step towards him and raised her right hand towards his face.
"May I?" She asked, carefully.
Lucifer simply nodded.
Rayna raised her hand more and skimmed her fingertips across the bumps and grooves in his features.
"What are you?" She breathed.
"I am the Devil, my love." He gave her the smallest hint of a smile.
"Cursed creatures... Together." Rayna breathed a chuckle.
"Yes we are." He replied.
