During the time that it took Niklaus to get to Los Angeles, Rayna had taken a turn for the worst once again.
She had collapsed in the shower.
Amenadiel had had to go in and pick up her naked body, get her unconscious form dried off and dressed into an oversized t-shirt and underwear before tucking her back into bed.
"Hello?" A male voice Amenadiel didn't recognise sounded from the elevator.
He went to investigate, seeing a man dressed in a grey sweater, black jeans and distressed military boots. He was carrying an unconscious woman over his shoulder.
"Klaus Mikaelson. Where's my first born?" He said.
"Through here." Amenadiel replied, gesturing over his shoulder to the bedroom.
Niklaus nodded, moving over to the couch to drop the woman onto it before Vamp speeding to Rayna's side.
She was still unconscious.
"I'll make them pay, love. I promise you that." He whispered to her, taking her hand.
Just as he took a deep breath, he noticed something he really didn't like.
"When did that start?" He asked, pointing to her other hand.
Amenadiel looked, seeing her stone grey hand covered in veins, working its way up her arm so slowly it wasn't even noticeable.
"I have no idea..." He said.
"She's desiccating. If that reaches her heart, she's dead. I need to wake that bloody Witch up." Niklaus sighed. "Where is Lucifer?"
"He's AWOL. No one's seen him in over a month. He didn't react well to Rayna's pregnancy." Amenadiel replied. "I'll get Maze on his tail, just in case. Don't worry; she's the best tracker in Heaven, Hell or Earth."
Klaus nodded. "I hope she lives up to that." He said. "Because I need words with our Devil friend."
"He's my brother, actually." Amenadiel corrected.
Niklaus raised an eyebrow. "You're an Angel."
The brother nodded. "Unfortunately."
"Why unfortunately?" The Original wondered.
"Believe it or not, it has its downsides."
Niklaus nodded, knowingly.
"I'm familiar with the feeling, mate. I'm an Original Vampire. I'm also a Werewolf. If I lose my temper – and that happens more often than I'd like - I could accidentally kill one of my Vampire friends with one bite." He said. "The only upside to this is that my blood is also the cure to a Werewolf bite."
"What a life you lead." Amenadiel chuckled softly. "Right, I'll get onto Maze."

In only a few hours, Maze had located Lucifer.
He hadn't strayed far. In fact, he had slowly been making his way back to Los Angeles.
"The time for distractions is over, Lucifer." Maze growled. "Rayna is dying and so is your baby. You need to come with me."
"You what?" Lucifer frowned.
"She's dying. If you don't get back soon, you'll never be able to make this right." The Demon told him. Lucifer didn't know what to do or say. "So are you coming with me voluntarily or do I have to drag you back to Lux?"
The Devil took a moment to think.
"Let's go." He finally said.

Back at Lux, both of Rayna's arms and legs had entirely desiccated.
"She's getting worse and that bloody Witch won't wake up." Niklaus snarled in frustration. "I knew I should've let my sister take charge of dosing her up with the anaesthetics."
"Do you have any idea what we could do for a plan B?" Amenadiel asked.
"She was the one who cast the hex, which means she's the only one who can undo it." Klaus explained. "Bloody hell, I should've brought Freya with me."
"Who's Freya?" Amenadiel frowned.
"My other sister. She's not a Vampire, but she is one of the most powerful Witches alive – Hence how she's survived a thousand years. She wouldn't be able to rid Rayna of this curse, but she could prolong its effects for a while. It would've bought us some time." Niklaus looked over to Rayna's dying body in the bed with saddened eyes. "I'm so sorry, love..."
Just then, the elevator pinged, revealing Maze and Lucifer.
"Where the hell do you think you've been?" Amenadiel snapped.
"In my own head, brother." Lucifer retorted. "Now if you don't mind, the love of my life and my child are dying. So forgive me if I have more important things to be tending to than you and your feelings."
"My feelings are only because you abandoned your post when we needed you most. When she needed you most." Amenadiel shouted, pointing harshly to the Heretic in the bed.
Lucifer sighed and rubbed his eyes with his thumb and middle finger.
"I've been a bloody idiot." He mumbled.
"Go to her." His brother's voice was calm again.

It was hours later before River Beaumont woke up.
Immediately, Klaus sprang into action.
He held her up by the throat, her feet dangling in mid-air.
"Cure her, Witch." He growled.
"I don't know what you're talking about." She choked out, clawing at his hands to release.
"Rayna. You know, the Heretic who saved your life. Is this how you pay your life debts? By killing her and her unborn child?" Niklaus boomed.
"The child should never have been conceived in the first place." River wheezed. "And she will never be born if you don't release me."
In an instant, Niklaus released her, dropping her breathless form in a heap on the floor.
"She?" Lucifer came out of the bedroom, having overheard their conversation.
River nodded as she rubbed her throat.
"Your child is a girl." She said.
Lucifer stormed over to the Witch, towering over her with power and forcefulness pouring from every metaphorical orifice.
"Cure them." He growled. "Now."
"And if I don't?" River smirked up at him from the floor.
Lucifer's face began to flicker between his Humanoid one and his Devil one, sending the Coven leader scrambling to the nearest corner, her screams echoing throughout the penthouse and body trembling with fear.
"If you don't." The Devil began. "I'll drag you to Hell, myself. No Supernatural ancestry limbo for you, just fear and torment for all eternity."
With his face back to normal, it was pretty safe to say that Lucifer had successfully persuaded the Witch.
"To cure her, you need the blood of her sire and..." She hesitated with the next item on her list.
"Get on with it." Niklaus sneered.
River sighed, closing her eyes shut tight.
"The sacrifice of the coven who cast the hex." She finally said.
"No." Amenadiel piped up.
"How the Hell are we going to sacrifice her entire coven when we only have one of them here?" Maze asked.
"It's funny you say that, love." Niklaus smirked, only making eye contact with the Witch before him. "New Orleans Witches run on ancestral magic. Part of that deal is that they are all linked with their coven leader; meaning we only need to kill her to kill them all."
"So this whole time, all you had to do was give Rayna some of your blood and kill this Witch bitch?" Maze shook her head. "Unbelievable."
"Apparently so." Niklaus nodded, frustration written across his face.
"We're not killing anybody." Amenadiel argued.
"If we don't kill her, we're basically killing Rayna and the baby." The Demon countered.
The Angel responded by wiping his face in frustration and a conflicted mind.
"You've been rather quiet this whole time." Maze turned to Lucifer.
"I'm thinking." He said.
"Don't strain yourself, mate." Niklaus spoke before Vamp speeding to the Witch and snapping her neck as easily as a twig.
"No!" Amenadiel yelled, going to move before realising it was already too late.
River dropped to the floor as soon as Niklaus took his hands away.
"Now for the second part." He shrugged, walking over to the bedroom.
"I like your style." Maze smirked at him as he walked past her. She looked at Lucifer. "Can he stay?"
Everyone gathered around the bed, ignoring Maze's comment to see that Rayna was almost completely desiccated.
The Original Hybrid bit into his wrist and put it to the Heretic's lips.
"Come on, love. Drink for me." He spoke softly.
Lucifer hung behind him in anticipation, nervously tapping on his lips with his index finger.
Just as the last section of Rayna's face dulled over with the dreaded grey veins and everyone was about to give up hope, the Heretic's hands lifted and gripped Niklaus' arm, needing more blood.
Slowly but surely, the grey faded back to skin colour and everyone released the deep breath that none of them knew they had been holding.
Rayna gasped out for air, releasing her sire's arm.
"What the fuck..." She panted.
"Glad to have you back, love." Niklaus smiled softly. "There's someone here to see you."
He stood up and got out of the way, allowing Rayna to see Lucifer.
"Hello, my dear." The Devil smiled, nervously, moving to sit on the edge of the bed.
But Rayna backed away, turning her head.
"I think we should leave them to talk." Amenadiel said.
Everyone agreed, deciding that Niklaus and Maze would take River's body to the California hills to bury it.

"Why did you leave me?" Rayna asked after minutes of agonising silence.
"I'm not sure I know the answer to that anymore." Lucifer answered truthfully.
"Try." The Heretic spat.
Lucifer sighed heavily. "You know my opinion on children. Honestly, I didn't think I was going to stay even after I got back until..."
"Until what?"
"Until the Witch said that we were having a daughter." He finally said.
Rayna's mouth fell ajar.
"We are?" She asked.
Lucifer nodded. "I've decided that maybe having my own child won't be as bad as dealing with other people's children."
"And if you decide that you were wrong?" Rayna raised an eyebrow.
"I don't think I will." Lucifer looked her in the eye, showing her how genuine he was being. "I love you, Rayna and my father be damned if I won't love our daughter as well."
The Heretic couldn't refrain from launching herself at him, cupping his face to join their lips in a long awaited kiss.
"I love you too." She whispered. But then she backed away. "But if you ever do anything like that again, I promise I'll send you back to Hell by any means necessary."
"I'll hold you to that."
